Well, for what it's worth, here's an update on my particular situation. I just called the ARRL, near the end of their business day. The lady I spoke to was very nice and helpful. She said that they have not yet received the paperwork from the test session that I attended (Nov. 28) and that they have been trying to contact the VE to see what the problem is (it appears that I'm not the first one to call). She took my phone number and said she would, hopefully, have some information for me tomorrow.

This is the major fallacy with the large VECs that sponsor examinations in all parts of the country. With the advent of the internet and e-mail, there is no reason for them to still be relying on the USPS to get the paperwork to the VEC. It's a simple matter to scan the paperwork to a pdf and send the pdf to the VEC.

Saewald, did you find out any thing today?

Just as K6CPO posted, there shouldn't be any reason for them to use USPS. It takes more man hours to use the Postal Service, it's a heck of a LOT slower, on and on...
I'm not trying to rub salt into an open wound, but I took the test on a Saturday morning and by that following Monday morning I was informed by the VE of my license grant. Only about 44 hours!
That's the way it should be across the Nation. Just my .02.

I decided to check the the FCC ULS site this afternoon, even though I had not heard back from the ARRL yet. To my surprise, my license was there!

I also received an email from one of the VE's, apologizing for the delay and explaining that the packet with the test results had been delayed in the mail. "After several phone calls between the ARRL and inquiries with the USPS, the packet arrived Friday morning at ARRL headquarters for processing. The FCC processed the information and new licenses were issued." In spite of the mail issues, I'm impressed that the licenses were processed on the same day they arrived at the FCC.

KK6ZLX, congratulations on your earned license!

Now you're a full fledged ham and have privileges other citizens don't have.
You're permitted to use your radio equipment for the Tech class, you're permitted to experiment by building your own transmitters, and on and on...
Enjoy the service and help others who show a sign of becoming hams themselves. (being an Elmer is rewarding and fun)

Congrats on getting your call! :D

Don't stop now though. Go for you General too! I will be testing at the end of month.

The one thing I do plan on doing is taking a break after that. Between my Tech and now General studies I have been studying non-stop for the last two months. I am ready to just get some hands on experience and take some time to explore the hobby for awhile before I go for my Extra.

Good luck with whatever you decide and 73!

Thanks! I'll give a little more thought to General after the holidays are over.
