Maybe my serial port is bad, or maybe my cable is bad, or maybe the radio is bad.

The radio does seem to have a broken speaker jack, so I think I am going to send it back since I can't get it to work at all so far.

I just tried TrunkPCR on another PC and I get the same result. (I hate loading extra stuff on my work machine)

Are you running any Palm Pilot, or Pocket-PC Sync apps?

Does the 1000 software need the "pcr100 connector" SW loaded, or does it work out of the box?

I am trying to minimize variables.

Nope, no "conduit" software needed. It is "de javu" reading your post-exactly every problem you have i did have ! spent an hour trying different wall warts, my power supply etc. Not realizing that the power light IS controlled via software.
I found the correct com port via a process of elimination--you will get "invalid com port " messages until you get the correct one, then the message "communication failed".

The only thing i am having problems with is if i change frequencies really fast with the dial (via right mouse button) the software loses its connection with the pcr100. I assume that the data stream is not fast enough to support a real rapid spin of the knob. I am connected directly to the serial, as i also found my serial/usb connector would not work .

I am going to try talk pcr tonight, since "Great Lakes" and others recommend it, want to do that before i spend to much time learning the Icom software controls..........

Hey guys, I found the ICOM Service Manual for the PCR-100 in PDF format!

PM me with your regular email address and I'll send it to you.

I bought a used computer a while back just for using with my scanners. I went to COMPUSA and got a pci card that has 2 serial ports 1 parallel port. Afrer installing the drivers I looked in device manager and the serial ports show up as com5 and com6. I labeled each radio as such, along with the cables. As a quick test I have programed a few frequencies into the memory list. I am using the PCR100 program from Icom and so far everything is working fine.

If the port is bad, I will just trash that PC and use another spare.

Be aware, the PSU needed for thes PCR-100's needs to be very stable.

The 100 gets very fussy about power supplies.

As a long time PCR owner, and user of pretty much every package ever developed that can support the PCR-100 and 1000, TrunkPCR is light years ahead of all the others even if you don't use it for the trunking benefits. It's better than TalkPCR ever was. I am running XP Pro SP2.
