Hello all, wondering if anyone has the time to help a Linux newbie with setting this up. I only have one system in my area on tetra, but want to see it work. I have Mint 17.1 and run Op25 monitoring a phase 2 system. I do not want to screw that up as someone helped me a year ago set that up after many hours of errors on my part. Thanks

At last I registered, after lurking for a long time. I've been using your software for some time, and decided to do a clean install with the new installer.

Confirmed working on a fresh Ubuntu 15.04 install. Fast and painless!

Hello all, wondering if anyone has the time to help a Linux newbie with setting this up.

is this on a virtual machine or on bare hardware? if on a virtual machine, then simply back up the virtual machine files, and that's it. if on bare hardware then you can also make a backup (or a disk image if you don't want to mess with backups), and then you can do anything you like, without fear that you will break it beyond repair.

after you have a backup, you can try the install_telive.sh script. it hasn't been tested with mint 17.1, but should work.

i will add a check to the install script to see if libosmocore is already installed, and skip the installation if it is. op25 doesn't seem to use it, but oter software might, and then running install_telive.sh might break it

btw according to the docs op25 is installed via pybombs, so you should not have problems reinstalling, even if you break your install (unless you did something nonstandard there)

Install with no problem at all.

added the installation of python-numpy on ubuntu to the install_telive.sh script.

Thanks for super super script. Now it is install with no problems at all.
On a new fresh install of Linux Mint 17.2 English 64 Bit Desktop LTS Mate.

Even the Codec is install to. I think it is perfect.!

Next it will be super if it could display Encrypted call ID. I know the GSSI seems to be encrypted.
But what about ISSI. Is that encrypted to. If Airencrypt is 1 and Enc=2/3 ?

With Encrypyted network I some time se lots of unencrypted calls. It could be perfect to see what
is ISSI and what is GSSI. Some time i see the whole network switch from Enc=3 to Enc=2.
Does this ment that the network is then less secure when this i active ?

Thanks Again for this super script.

Hello to all;

I just installed last MInt version 17.2
Now I intend to begin Telive install in a few hours;

I will try to strictly follow the process given in the doc and on RTL-SDR Tutorial: Listening to TETRA Radio Channels - rtl-sdr.com (i have a rtl 2832u)

I just want to ask if Telive will work on this version,or are ther particular steps i have to change with this version of mint ?

Thanks in advance, wish me luck !

i've made a few tweaks to the install script. hope it will work better.

this version will not install libosmocore if it is already installed (so it shouldn't break any other software which depends on libosmocore).

also the receiver1 script will refuse to run if /tmp/fifoXXX is a file. this happens if someone runs the receiver flowgraph before running receiver1, it even appears to work for some time, but later if fails in ways non-obvious to some users.

the author of the telive tutorial on rtl-sdr.com has updated his page to direct users to the new install script (thanks!), so hopefully there will be less posts on this list from users who only used that page and didn't bother to read the documentation

Hello i launched the install this morning; quite fast although i did it via wifi
All the windows appeared, i just followed the instructions given;

But some problems : first, rtl seems not to be recognized , i don't get any signal in the spectrum window, and get messages like:

usb claim interface error
failed to open rtl ... do i have to install the dongle ?

next : RX window is too large , i can t access the freq entry box in the bottom,

and the most important problem, i installed Mint on usb stick, i wasn t aware i d lose all data when restarting from this installation ! do i have to install Mint on my HDD along with win 8? is there a risk of losing data ?

if so i think i should try to make a comlete install on a new HDD ;

thanks again !

It doesn't seem to solve anything...!

plug it in after the installation.

i've pushed a change to the install script a few hours ago to restart udevd, when installing the rtl-sdr source for gnuradio additional rules are installed to give access to the dongle for all users, but udevd is not restarted to see the changes. previously it might only work after a reboot

Usually the problem is that the kernel hogs the RTL device. You need to blacklist it in /dev/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Add a line reading:
Code:
blacklist dvb_usb_rtl28xxu

If the kernel driver is already active you can remove it with
Code:
rmmod dvb_usb_rtl28xxu
so you don't have to restart your OS.

VMware in w10 does seems to cause issues whether i run the hard part on a Proliant server and pipe the data to telive via ethernet or not...
Stuttering echoes and plain will not play even SSis display onscreen ready to play.
not sure how W10 causes this thou i tried running within virtual machine debian.. same tried running on externally via Proliant server via ethernet same got 10 towers i wanna listen to but this sounds like the (ssi follow instead of call id follow gone bad) 9 worked in w7 fine some times a little jitter now even if 2 have same call tis un understanable.. maybe it's a problem with some power saving mechanism? try to disable all forms of power management, maybe it will help

btw running this under a virtual machine is never a good idea, and should be considered as a last resort.

I am running under VMWare workstation 12 Player with Debian 8.2. My OS is windows 10 and it works pretty well for me. It does skip sometimes, but I can understand 95% of what is said so it isn't too bad. I've just accepted that a software solution with a cheap and re-purposed SDR chip will not be able to decode as well as a proper radio.
I usually put my computer's power managment settings to "High performance" which causes it to run the processor at close to the maximum speed all the time. Otherwise it would be on "Balanced" which slows the processor down when nothing is using it.

As sq5bpf said, try turning off any power management options, it helped for me.

well id prefer to run it on the Proliant server running Kali Linux but that caused same issue when i just piped the data to the virtual machine that worked fine in W7...
thing is this is the only way i figuerd out how to stream the sound to my phone/laptop other listeners Vm sound is virtual audiocable thats streamed by Edcast to caster.fm
