Thanks Pliquet for your input. Thanks for letting others that there is a "Current Problem" in my area. You said you work in the area of 8100North Zionsville Road and your reception is quote"Crap" Would you accept a invite to come down to 79Th and Michigan Road and let us do a side by side test with your radio vs mine? You will see there"Is no signal for the Control channel" and my Uniden 396T with the Updated firmware shows"Finding Control Channel" not only in my backyard but also in the locations I have listed in my past postingsand also inside my home.It is not my scanner and or scanners. All of my scanners which incude Radio Shack Pro-2096/Pro96, Uniden 996T (3) of them, Uniden 396T (2) of them, and Uniden 796D"S as I have (3) of them do the same thing. All of my scanners were sent back to be checked out when this problem started showing up and I was told by all of the manufactures of my equipment that they "Could not find anything wrong with any of my equipment and that the problem is the current system I am trying to monitor.Point 1- Another Radio Reference member of the Indiana section who lives just north of 79Th Street and east of Michigan Road is also having the same problem Point 2-.Also another member of Radio Reference is* selling his GRE- Digital scanner and he lives near the Marion/Hendricks County Line which is 8800West and 1600North becuase of the same problem. The member sent his GRE radio back to GRE for service becuase of this same problem and he was told in a written letter that the problem is not his scanner. It is the system he is trying to monitor. This was Direct from GRE. Thank You.

Your other option is to simply stop following the thread. I'm not trying to sound like an a**, but nobody is forcing anyone to read this thread.

MECA1 Settings: Online Feed

At one time weren't you also having problems with MECA? What did you do to resolve them?

GTO_04

I am using the stock telescoping whip antenna that came with my 996XT (a really GREAT radio!) and the antenna is fully collapsed. I experimented with three or four antennae (including a Laird Y8063 directional beam carefully aimed all directions) while carefully watching the error rate over a period of a few days, and the whip won hands-down.

MECA1 did not sound good at all (LOTS of garbling) until I set the following:

P25 Adjust Level: 200 (this is the max value--the higher I set this the better the error rate got and the clearer the transmissions became).

Hope this helps someone--this system can be a real bear to monitor, as many of us know.

There are no "QUOTE: settings" UNQUOTE on a 796D that you can change to receive a simulcast CQPSK system any better. I'd suggesting reviewing the Wiki or various threads on CQPSK reception.

Your options are 1) change location 2) point a directional antenna at specific towers or 3) live with it.

And that as they say is that..
