I am sure a version of UASD is coming soon that will support the BC396XT.

One thing you could do temporarily is to use FreeScan to load your existing BC396T UASD file and then upload it to the BC396XT. FreeScan can read (import) UASD files and can upload to the BC396XT.

See: ScanNow.org - The Home of FreeSCAN!

Sites will have to be added to each trunk system in the 396T files before loading them into the XT.

On the road....
I just placed my order...

Okay I just couldn't take it any longer, I just placed my order with Scanner Master for a BDC396XT.
Once BuTel gets the software done I should be set for sometime. question now is what do I do with
my BCD396T? Sell, keep for just in case or use as a door stop. Okay the last one is only a joke.

Tom

So your going to have the radio, and no software to program it? :p
FreeSCAN, ProScan, and ID Tracker II work with it, by the way.

Don't forget to compare the two radios side by side to see which one sounds better. :D

I couldnt take it any longer also so I sold my 396t to help pay for the xt. I am so glad I did I love the xt. It sounds so good I pick up the same systems I had in the 396t much better, all of them. I did not think it would be that much better but for me it is.As far as the 396t if you can afford to keep it put it in another room in your house its still a good scanner but I tell you what it will be collecting some dust cause when you get the xt thats all your gonna wana listen to. I think UPMan and uniden are working hard to get programing software out asap.

There is no system-level alert setting (i.e. alert when a system becomes active). There is an Emergency Alert setting that is set at the system level that provides an alert when a channel becomes active with the emergency flag set. As this isn't common, I don't offhand know which takes precedence (channel alert or emergency alert).

Okay, maybe I should ask what an emergency flag is. I thought it was another name for channel alert being triggered. Is it not that?

I still don't know what the system alert tone and volume settings are for if every channel has their own setting. I have used the channel alert tones without any problem. I left the system alert settings off and the channel alerts work by themselves.

There must be a concept that I missed on what problem does the system-wide-alert-tone-setting solve?

Emergency flag is a setting that is transmitted on the system if a radio has triggered its emergency status button.

Other than that, there is no system-wide-alert-level alert setting in the scanner...so if the emergency flag isn't what you are talking about, I must be misunderstanding what you are referring to.

I got 3 questions. 1 when you want to lockout at tg in id serch it says temp lockout how do you lockout the tg so it will not come back on when you turn scanner back on.2 how do you put a pre programed system on your list of quick keys do you have to lockout all the sites that come with it because when I put the SAFE-T site on it started motorboating because it was trying to pick up sites from far away I have a site 4 miles away that I can put in.3 Are any of these questions on the user guide or in wiki Thanks

Thanks. That explained it. I was confused about the emergency flag. Now I know it's externally generated.

That makes me want to set it so I won't miss any real emergencies.

Thanks for the help,
Dave

I got what may be a dumb question do you need to mess with the location based scanning settings if your scanner is going to be near the site all the time I mean would it help lock onto that site or is it just for when you travel? Thanks

2 Q's

-Do you need to program in the I-Call wildcard to receive I-calls in search mode?

-Does the Moto ID patch (TG123456-TG654321) only show in search mode, ot will it also show when you have a TG programmed and the scanner is in scan mode?

Is there a way to set a single conventional channel to 6.25khz spacing? I found in the "settings" you can change the default for a particular band, but I only need it on a few channels in that range not all of them.

I have created a convention system called "HAM". Under this I created 2 groups in which I put all of the frequencies in the system, and associated them to quick keys 1 and 2. If I choose this HAM system as the only system I am monitoring then then I unselect groups 1 and 2, the scanner the says "Nothing to scan". Makes sense so far.
However the 396 will not allow me to reenable either group 1 or 2.
Is there a way to reenable the groups?

Menu>Program System>Select the HAM system>Edit Group>pick one of the groups>Set Lockout>Unlock

No. In search mode the scanner will stop on all system traffic.

The scanner will automatically select the step that matches the frequency you enter for a channel, so no manual setting is needed.

FUNC+Scroll to the system. With FUNC still activated, press 1 and/or 2.

Upman, thank you for the reply. It does not see to be working that way. I am entering a frequency in that is 6.25 spacing and it is rounding up to the 12.5khz step. The only time it kept the 6.25 spacing was when I changed the default for the frequency range to 6.25 (this obviously is a problem for everything else in that range that is 12.5).

This is one example:
482.10625 = 482.1000 and yes the radio is set on NFM, and the UHF-T band is a default of 12.5 as set by the factory.

It works that way if you enter it into a channel. If you are entering in direct mode, it is going to use the default for the frequency range.

Upman, as usual touche. Yes I was having the problem in direct mode. When I tried actually setting up the system it accepted them with the right spacing. Thanks for all your help.
