Pretty much every law enforcement agency in Jefferson Co and Clark Co IN. will be involved including KY State Police and even Louisville METRO Corrections. The best LMPD freq to monitor is 155.070, it's the TAC,SWAT & special events CH and the Urban/Suburban MOTO-Bridge so you can hear both sides on this freq.

And don't forget to monitor urban fire and ems as well.EMS will use one of the backup channels for thunder ops, probably MED Channel 5 or 6

Yes I am looking for Mil Air Frequencies for the airshow, 132.3250 AM is the Thunder Air Boss Frequency, Go to www.kdf.org, and they have the list of what is in the air show, I am putting all the local airport freqs in(Louisville Int'l, Bowman Field, Clark County) They have some old warbirds that usually show up every year. And put in all local public safety as Bluegrass1dcr1 stated. All in the RR database. It's alot of fun, if they get any bigger fireworks, i think they will blow up the river!!! I will be at the Louisville Science Center Thunder Blast area, they have thier own roped off spot, they serve food, drinks, have stuff for the kids to do, and best of all a place to park where no one but Thunder Blast people can park!

I'm sorry to say that the thunder fireworks will not be getting any bigger. The DHS has put a cap on how large the fireworks show can be so this year's show will be about the same as all the years to follow.

According to the Air Combat Command Aerial events page the military tac demos will be:

A-10 West: Unsure
F-15 West: 376.025 or poss 384.55
F-16 West: 384.55 or poss 136.575

Also an F-117A flyover and the Heritage Flight with the WW II a/c being a P-51 Mustang.

Also search the VHF air band for any civilian a2a's. A big plus would be to have one of the scanners with close call or signal stalker ability. They will pick up these a/c. I know my Pro-97 will. Unless Thunder is different and ya'll have confirmed that the air boss is the same year after year most air boss freqs change year to year. At least in airshows they do. But anyhow goodluck and we look forward to a report from attendies.

Great thanks guys, do they have a pre-air show practice on Friday afternoon by any chance? I may try to get some freqs then. Also i've been checking out the parking areas and such, how early does everyone start arriving? I know the air show starts at 3 but i'm just trying to gauge if everyone arrives about noon or what time should I expect to get down there and find a decent parking spot thats not 20 blocks away.

If you are talking about the public safety 800MHz trunked system aka MetroSafe phase 3 then no it is not up yet except for some patches used just for testing.

Also, Check The NOTAM Site

The next NOTAM will be released 12-Apr-2007.

It should have a listing for the Thunder event, possibly with some frequencies.

I forgot to mention why i'm going. It looks like a great TAC demo setup for the military portion of the airshow.

According to Air Combat Command aerial events website here's the USAF lineup:

A-10 Thundebolt II (West Coast Demo Team, Davis-Monthan AFB)
F-15C Eagle (West Coast Demo Team, Eglin AFB)
F-16CJ Falcon (also known as VIPER West, West Coast Demo Team, Hill AFB)

Heritage Flight W/P-51 Mustang and of course the modern fighters
and also F-117A and B-2A flyovers.

And for the Navy:

F/A-18F Super Hornet Demo (VFA-122, NAS Lemoore, CA) This demo is out of this world. It rocks!!

It's a pretty impressive lineup for the military. I'm not sure of the civilain performers yet.

Well I suppose thats the reason why it's rated in the top 5 air shows of the US. Should be a rockin show, I can't wait. 9.5 more days till THUNDDEERRRRRR. Hopefully the weather is nice. Looks like the first half of that week will be dry and in mid 60's which isn't a good sign as of late. Usually a new weather system has been rotating thru every few days for April. Also, does anyone know how early everyone starts arriving? 800,000 expected and I noticed that the food fest starts 4 hours before the air show.

NOTAM - Thunder Over Louisville

http://www.faa.gov/ntap/NTAP07APR12/as07002.htm

No special frequencies noted.

THUNDER OVER LOUISVILLE
AERIAL DEMONSTRATION
Louisville, Kentucky

April 21, 2007

An aerial demonstration is being conducted on April 21, 2007, in association with the opening ceremonies for the Kentucky Derby over the Ohio River in the vicinity of the Louisville VORTAC (IIU) 315 radial, 13NM in Louisville, Kentucky. The demonstration will begin at 2:00 p.m. EDT (1800 UTC), April 21, 2007, and conclude at 10:00 p.m. EDT (0200 UTC) April 21, 2007.

The demonstration may include, but not limited to, the following events: Air-show, including multiple high performance military aircraft, acrobatic aircraft, skydivers, banner tows, rotorcraft operations, blimp operations, media coverage from numerous aircraft, and a fireworks display.

Due to potential airborne hazards, avoid over flight within 5 NM and below 17,000 MSL in the vicinity of the IIU315013. Demonstrations will be conducted in the northern portion of the Class C Airspace and non-participating pilots are cautioned that ATC approval may be required to transition the area (see graphic).

Practice demonstrations will be conducted in the above location during various times on Thursday, April 19th and Friday, April 20th.

Pilots are urged to check NOTAM(s) if flight is to be conducted in this area on the effective dates shown above. Aircraft planning to transition within 50nm of this area may also obtain additional information by contacting Louisville Approach Control on 132.07 or by calling 1-502-375-7400.

Well damn, no special frequencies noted. Is anyone going to take a stroll down there Thursday or Friday and do some monitoring of practice runs and then post the frequencies on here?

I Work very close to the airport (Poplar Level Rd.-Indian Trail), I will be monitoring as much as I can, I pass the airport every day, when I start seeing military aircraft setting on the field, I will check more frequently. I will post anything I find.

They don't usually post frequencies for airshows and events in the NOTAMS's. The only freqs i've seen posted in any kind of NOAM's was for the TFR over New Orleans after Katrina and were just two of them of who to contact if you had to go into that area. The airboss freqs, both VHF/UHF, are usually decided on closer to the event and may not be the same as last time. You just have to do a little searching and hope for a little luck. I am still going to try to make it depending on the weather and will have signal stalker going. Of course being able to be there on Friday and can devote 100 percent of your time to searching is a plus too. These one day events are a little tougher to unravel than say a regular two day airshow and of course it's more difficult for folks coming in from out of town that can't stake it out on Friday. Enjoy. And yes, the early reports from folks that live up there are greatly appreciated.

I may be able to search on Friday, but I'll probably stay home and watch it on TV and monitor what i can get from 30 Miles away.
