dvdbir : as I said to you , I really think its not a trunked system , they will use existing frequencies with DVP overlay so to speak.

When my local PD went TRBO they didn't change frequencies. They basically programmed 2 zones into the new radios (one analog, one digital). Once they were satisfied with the testing they simply switched to the digital zone. Any time they had problems they would flip back to the analog zone until the problems were solved.

from what I can tell, they are testing 2 frequencies that are not part of the original frequencies that Timmins Police used to use. The techs got so caught up in the testing, that they had to shut off the speakers in dispatch because of all the testing ongoing on the new system.

Forts, what you said makes sense too that they'd have a backup conventional system incase the digital system fails.

The freq are the same ones as seen in the database.,.,.,,again , the word I heard ( Sprectrum ) they will use existing freqs....and will now use DVP....this DVDBIR , not a trunked system , so there is no control channel.....just the same channels as before only diff is Digital Voice Protection....end of story....you can listen to the hiss , or white noise.,...every one in a while they do go clear for maintenance , etc....do a lil detective work.....listen for spectrum to show up , they will be analog....dong work in the future, they again , often they switch to clear mode ( variety of reasons ) - also tune into fire...and ems....if its a good call , youll hear it....also monitor the OPC 142.770 - Timmins pd still has to talk to the opp on joint ops....they always use that freq no matter , least in the north over the last 25 yrs in my exp.

last second thought use a p25 radio , listen to mnr....they will use opp and the city pd for joint ops , and all use 142.770 again mostly in north ont this method is used.,.a lil detective work here goes a long way.,,,,try the input...is there a hiss...I would say yes.,.however ya never know

DVP hasn't been offered for sale in at least 20 years.

I don't know where you're getting your information but it's incorrect.

If it is a Trbo system, I doubt it's DES.

I don't think Trbo supports DES.

so far, I found Timmins Police's new OPS 2 and OPS 3 Channels and the new EMO channel. Waiting for the new Fire Dept. Channel when they switch over.

MotoTRBO has 2 versions on encryption (in the TRBO world they call it 'privacy')... Basic privacy and Advanced privacy. Basic privacy seems to be a variant of speech inversion which uses a key value between 1 and 255 selected in the CPS. Advanced privacy provides 40 bit encryption using a user defined hex value up to 12 characters long (I believe...something like that anyways) which is also entered via the CPS, with over 1 trillion possible combinations. With Basic privacy, it's a radio wide feature. Any talk groups using privacy will all use the same key. With Advanced privacy, different key values can be assigned to different groups. Also, according to the CPS help file, there may be a slight degradation in audio quality using Advanced privacy due to the way the packets are encrypted. Enabling privacy on a TRBO radio is a simple mouse click, and no key loader is required.
