Make sure that you have the latest database in your scanner. If you have not updated it since receiving the scanner, likely it is out of date. Install Sentinel, if you have not done so already, and update it's database information, then write that to the scanner. Also be sure that you have the correct Service Types enabled. The default types when the scanner is shipped are Dispatch for Public Safety (Law Dispatch, Fire Dispatch, EMS Dispatch, etc). Also be sure that the
Tac and
Talk types are enabled as well (Law Talk, Fire Tac, Multi-Dispatch Tac, etc).
Looking at your county in the
database, I see some conventional frequencies used by the county S.O. and for Fire. However, I also see that the county has a DMR Trunked
system. Did you also purchase the DMR upgrade for your scanner? If not, you would not hear that system. I also see that there are only a few identified talkgroups listed for that system, but those that are listed, are also tagged as encrypted, so you would not be able to hear them regardless of whether or not you have the upgrade. There's only six listed, but those are all showing
TE in the Mode column (DMR & encrypted). There may be other, non-encrypted, TGIDs in use, but if so, none have been submitted for inclusion in the database. A neighboring county, Haywood, also has a
DMR system. Only a few TGIDs are in the database, and they show possible part time encryption (the lower case
e in the mode column indicates some use of encryption, but not full time).
You might get a more complete answer as whether any other talkgroups are used for your county, and whether or not they are encrypted, if your thread is moved to your state forum. To do that, do
not create a new thread. Instead, click on the Report in the lower left corner of one of your posts, and request that a moderator move your thread to the state forum. Someone in the area would be more likely to see it there.
