Does anyone know if they make a remote head kit for the tk-780? A quick google shows a IDA QM1-KW80 as kit but no longer made.

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Quick Mount made one, and I assume it was the same one IDA sold. They were big and clumsy, we installed a few dozen of them around 20 years ago. Quick Mount also made a remote kit for the Maxtrac and GM300's. IIRC they were in Red Bluff CA.

Yes there was a remote kit, it was not OEM but I personally have installed them.

Must have someone hacked up a TK-780, as no remote kit for this model from Kenwood.
Plus the head does come off easily like the models that support having remote heads..

I have worked for a Kenwood dealer for over 25 years, I have installed a few dozen of the remote head kits back in the day on 780's. If you took the time to do a simple Google search you would find out that Quick Mount (as I said NOT OEM) was an actual company that sold remote kits for several radios, mostly for Maxtrac and GM300's. You may want to look up IDA (tone remotes) at the same time.

Agreed it didn't come from kenwood but it was a option that was made for that radio just by another manufacturer and it was already sead that it was not great. And no it was not a hack job it was professionally made. As for ease of removing the head it was simpler than the 90 series radio and still smaller. I have actually seen one and yes I thought it was ugly myself but if I had a chance to own one I probably would just because it is rare.
