• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Ok, I got 2 TK-790H's that I bought. One turns on and programs just fine, it didn't have ignition sense enabled. It's component board layout is also like what is shown in the service manual. The other one... firstly R504 and R506 were such that it was ignition sense enabled, but I couldn't find R742 and R743 on the component board (pictures to follow). Before I fooled around and looked inside I hooked up power and I could hear a click inside the radio, but the control head did not light up. Then I opened up and removed the jumper resistor and inserted to the correct spot for normal operation (not requiring an ignition wire). The radio still does not turn on, but makes the "click" when 12v is applied to it. The component board layout looks a bit different, didn't know if there was a version 1 or 2 component board? The service manuals "out there" all look like the first photo. Second photo is the one that's a bit different. I know my soldering work is not great but I do have continuity where it counts (also, I unplugged the connector in the left-bottom for the pictures/soldering work only, not left that way)

May have a deeper issue. Could send it into a Kenwood repair facility to have it fixed.

If I felt like having repaired, where would be a good contact? Either nationally or in Southeast US

Sorta figured it out. I switched R504 back to R506 and just put 12v on the ignition sense pin on the 9 pin accessory connector on the back of the radio and it turns on now. Something about trying to un-ignition sense the radio was not working (moving resistors around and such), so I'll just live with the 12v jumper.
