• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I currently have a TK-2180 handheld which I love because it stores 512 channels. I've now purchased a TL-7180 mobile which also holds 512 channels. Since they can be programmed with the same software (KG-89D), how can I transfer my already-built TK-2180 codeplug over and build a TK-7180 codeplug? I tried simply "Save As" but remember you have to, at some point, change the "Model Information" and when you do this, it erases the stored data.

Anyone know how to successfully do this?

Yes you can use the same info. Just change the model and it should be ok and not erase anything. You would have to check your button assignments but thats about it. I do this all the time on my 2180/7180's in my work fleet. What version of software are you using?

When you attempt to change the model type, you'll get a pop up showing what incompatible features that will be blanked. In the case of a 2180 to a 7180 the buttons and com port data will be erased. Easy enough to fill back in on the new model.

As a side note: if you have cross platform models (different programming software), you can use EXPORT and IMPORT if both models support it to get data across. Limited but if you have a lot of channels it saves a ton of typing.

I think I have solved my initial issue but since changing a few channels on the radio, I must have done something else to the codeplug because now, when I put the 2180 in scan mode, the radio sounds a continuous beep at about 1 second intervals. Any idea what I may have done that causes this - it's very annoying.

Thanks,
