I’m fairly tech savvy
Then you will have no trouble appending Sentinel to add this to the scanner if you have updated the database and relevant info is in there.
If it were me, only add the towers your scanner can hear (depending on your antenna setup) otherwise scanner will look for control channel that isn't there (WOT)
The other curious question is; How come that system is not already in your scanner ?

Honestly, because I haven’t updated the database in a while. I only needed access to certain frequencies but now that the changeover is eminent, I wasn’t sure how to access the new system. I’ve just updated my database and will do so on the scanner shortly. I may have more questions lol but I really do appreciate the help.

Well it's been 6 months with no new information. The few talkgroups submitted to the database back in August 2023 seem to be all encrypted.

Any locals have any updates?

Eastern Health Ambulance Dispatch Operations on 164.250 in St. John's has gone quiet. Around that time, encrypted talk group 23402 had a huge increase in traffic. I am assuming that 23402 is the dispatch talk group, however that is UNCONFIRMED.

Eastern Health Emergency Room patch on 149.410 to various hospitals sits quiet, unless a unit outside St. John's is transporting to one of the three hospitals inside the city. I am assuming Eastern Health Ambulances are using 1/2/3/4 different talk groups for reporting now.
St John's Regional Fire Department is still apparently making the switch to P25. That is just word of mouth and I have no more information at this time

Thanks 73!

So is it safe to say that all P25 systems in Newfoundland are encrypted? (Police, EMS, etc.) Also are taxi's in St, John's on a P25 system also? Thanks for all the info posted it helps out a lot.
Using a SDS100.

Thanks to some strong troposphere ducting just after midnight, I heard a Zone 3 control channel from south-east N.B. (3-096 772.13125).

Using Pro96Com to look at Adjacent Site Information I found:
  • 3-101 771.78125
  • 3-102 772.04375
  • 3-111 769.11875
  • 3-112 772.09375
  • 3-097 769.29375 Probably from the "Port aux Basques" area.

Hello Everyone, just a quick update.

Since the St. John's Regional Fire Department has moved to P25, I have noticed a HUGE increase in encrypted voice traffic on TG 25750. I cannot confirm that this is the talk group for SJRFD, however this TGID was non existent before the switch. Since the day that they have switched to P25, this talk group has almost been constantly active.

Also, today I heard clear voice traffic on talk group 24053. Talked about filling potholes with the "asphalt truck" on the highway near Avondale. Sounds like department of highways (?)

Has anyone else heard anything interesting on the P25 network here in Newfoundland?

Another P25 update here from VO1. For the past two days a new agency has been operating in the clear. Mostly talking about how the new radio system sounds great and that it is a bit to get used too. The talk group number is 24072.....

Does anyone have any ideas on how to go about figuring out the agency that is using the talkgroup? Would an access to information request submitted to bell radio get me anywhere, or would it be ignored?

I wouldn't hold your breath on getting info out of anyone, especially Bell. If you got some friends that use the system in any capacity they may be more help.

Keep listening, track radio ID's if you have the capability to see if they bounce around to different talkgroups. May help determine who it is you're listening to.

I would bet most if not all public safety are encrypted.

From the watertower in Galway (St. Johns, NFLD) I received:

771.14375 0687H - 0331 with a NAC of 681. This control channel is only registered to Notre Dame Junction or Queens Cove. More research is needed. The Trepassey site uses this control channel as well, however with a different site ID and NAC

772.08125 0687H - 0329 NAC 689. I believe this site to be Chance Cove

Received today on SJRFD 1, 170.205.

"Attention attention, this is St. Johns Dispatch. We are signing off from the analogue system, Kenmount and Shea towers, for the last time. Thank You"

I guess the analogue system is being dismantled and going silent for good.

Hello everyone.

Recently there has been traffic on 24051, 24052 and 24053. They all sound like highway plows, loaders and salters. All three talk groups seem to cover areas of roads, and they all seem to use "the clover-leaf exchange" just before paddy's pond as a starting point.

24051 for the CBS highway, Foxtrap, Butterpot park and this side of the Holyrood roundabout. I am unsure as to what I should label this talk group as, so I am going to label it as "CBS Hw / TCH snowclearing"

24052 Covers Galway, Goulds, Bay Bulls, big pond and witless bay. With the information I have, I am going to label this talk group as "Irish loop east snowclearing"

24053 Covers Bauline, Torbay, Portugal Cove, Saint Phillips, Flatrock, Logy Bay, Middle Cove, Outer cove and Pouch Cove. I am going to label this talk group as "Killick Coast snowclearing"

This is a very rough outline as to what I believe to be the areas covered under each talkgroup. Feel free to adjust or change this in any way you see fit. The more information we have put together the better.
