Hi,
I was wondering what the Tone and the Input columns are for?
If I enter those in, will they do anything?

Tone= CTCSS/DCS tone. Check the "Wiki" on this site, click on wiki at the top of the page.

Input= The input frequency for a repeater. In a nutshell, you don't need to program these into your scanner. Use the output freq (under the "Frequency" column)

The input column is the input frequency for a repeater. If it is blank, either it is unknown, or it is a simplex system.

The tone column is for the privacy tone that is used on the users radios to help keep them only hearing their radio traffic with the correct tone.

Motorola calls it Private Line(PL) or Digital Private Line(DPL)

GE called it Channel Guard(CG)

Hope this helps

Thanks for the information guys.
You learn something everyday.....
If you put your mouse icon over the column heading, it will explain what the column contains.

Pl

Hey guys, one more quick question. I was entering in some local News Chopper Freqs and one user stated that you have to enter the PL or a Spanish cab company will interfere on the same freq. I am using a BC246T with ARC246 software, how do I enter in these PL #'s. Thanks you guys have been very helpful. The only option I see for tone in the manual is Tone/Lock Out

When using the ARC246 software, the PL tones can be entered in the "CTCSS/DCS" column.

if you know it's analog and nothing is listed for the PL, set it to search for the PL. if you find an unlisted PL, verify it by listening a few times to make sure it's who it's listed as (so you're not hearing another agency on the same freq in another state or something). after verification, submit it to the database to share it with everyone else.
