Okay, now I've been reading a lot about the fire tone-out feature and it sounds like people are liking it but what exactly is it?? On my scanner I hear the tone-outs on the fire channel, and I have a Minitor which has the sole purpose of tone-outs and tone-outs only. Is that what the tone-out feature does, or what? If someone could give me a nice and simple explaination about what it is and how it works, that'd be great. Thanks.

Say you are a member of a volunteer fire department. You can set the scanner to your departments specific tones, and you will only be alerted with tones if the scanner detects the tones that you entered, just like your pager. :)

You can program your scanner so it alerts only with the tones - just like your pager.

If you do not know the tones HZ Tone A & B have to download 2 things a HZ counter and a recorder. I have them both I can put them on a zip thing. I only could put the counter up since it is a small file. The recorder is a big file..

The Fire Tone Out is like a fire/ems pager. It tooke a me awhile to figure it out myself.

KCChiefs9690: Not volunteer FF, just an Explorer obsessed with radios! ;) (aren't we all...)

If I set the tone-out, I can still use my scanner just like I always would right, or would it completely paralyize it into just another pager?

This is the impression I get from the tone-out...correct me if I'm wrong. If I turn tone-out on, I can be sitting there, listening to PD, or whatever, and then a tone comes across so I hear that, and when the dispatch is over, I can resume normal scanning.

It will scan multiple tone outs they have to be the same Freq. Example 154.205 If you have 2 different Freq's it will not scan both just one. I have Co running and a city running when I feel like hearing them....
