You know .. having been at a recent ham fest I realized one thing. Hams have got to be some of the weirdest people around.

They think that nothing depreciates in value and the junk they have (you just have to look at this guys junk we are all talking about here) .. is worth a fortune.

You just have to look at the guy "mortgaging his house". Like sorry .. 5$ is too much for that old junk. I guess I should state that I have been a ham since 1986 and well I still shake my head at the things these old farts think is valuable.

Like there is nothing wrong with letting technology do its thing .. why keep the old junk, put it to death as it should be, and don't try to sell it. It will just make people realize how disassociated from the real world you are.

Me .. I dont know if I will ever attend another ham fest again. Until people realize that junk is junk I will be staying away.

Boy, you're so right... the entire reason I let my license expire years ago. Trying to sell even really good stuff at fests was an exercise in complete frustration and I gave that up 9 years ago and am the healthier for it mentally.

I finally went to a fest last month as I needed a good portable for the railroad-only went out of necessity.

I Tried to google wa6mhz, got 1,850 hits, including his ebay profile and lots of APRS reports. Now you know why he has so much junk. Haven't found pictures yet, I want to see them too.

Get this: I remembered Pat Bunsold WA6MHZ when I first was studying for my amateur radio novice license back in 1964 or 1965. He was a member of the local radio club DARC www.w9dup.org and so was I. We were about the same age, and I remember Pat being very inquisitive. We sort of lost touch when we went to different high schools, then I never saw him again.

In July of 2005, as I recall, he was selling some ARRL handbooks on the www.eham.net classifieds. When I see something unusual, different, or an item that piques my curiousity, I'll put their ham callsign in the www.qrz.com lookup area. In this case, I noticed the name and sent him an email. We corresponded a few times, then I haven't heard from him since.
