If I were to somehow flag my top 50 channels currently programmed over multiple systems and groups in my 996P2 could I scan only those flagged? I've number tagged them already 1 to 50 and set the Priority to On for just those tagged. Also, some are conventional but most are in Trunked systems. I've played with priority scans but really didn't have luck with that. I use ARC-XT for programming, most systems were downloaded from RR.

Yes. You could program 50 channels but remember when dealing with trunked systems you need to program in the system and TG(s).

I’d just program every trunked system and conventional system I wanted and avoid all that I don’t want to listen to.

Not really. It doesn't really work that way.

For trunked systems, the scanner scans (active) Control Channels (Frequencies) It acts on the information it receives over the active control channel(s).

Read about How Trunking Works

For Conventional Systems, you won't be able to dictate what order it scans the Conventional frequencies that I know of.

By programming a bunch of Priorities, the scanner will constantly be checking those frequencies for activity. (A mess to listen to)

Priority on a Trunked System is even more complicated.

Thanks all. I kinda thought not but thought I'd throw it out there. The priority scans I played with definitely produced a "mess to listen to". A separate system sounds like the way to go. A very trimmed down system made up of mainly those favourites. I do need to work on my understanding of the trunked systems and will read that sticky for sure. Thanks again.

Doctordialyone; For the intent and purpose it does. By “system” I meant those particulars necessary to track the service, such as control channels for one... My response was general in nature and I believe it offered a solution to the question. That being said, I wonder if you might expound upon what you meant by “Not really”... it causes me to explore any error in my response, why it caused you to point it out. I’m trying to determine what I might have stated that would have been a more accurate response to the question instead of my being brief.
