Traffic On EMSA Analog

Just heard Creek County EMS 28 on EMSA Analog side (30288) and they gave a patients birthday and last 4 of their social, where they picked them up, the injuries, the mechanism, and the destination to EMSA dispatch for 'data'. Anyone know why CCEMS does that? Is it some sort of trauma alert thing or what?

yes...

All trauma calls must notify EMSA of the information you heard. They're the regional Trauma coordinator established by the trauma fund you see tacked on to DUI tickets, etc. It's additional funding for EMSA and a way to have additional man power in the comm center. They've been doing that since I was there 3 or more years ago. Most of the time it's done by phone but occasionally they'll do it on the radio. It's been awhile but if I remember correctly, any trauma that gets transported to any hospital in Tulsa must be 'cleared' by EMSA to the appropriate hospital. I think part of it is to make sure trauma injury patients aren't getting taken to a 'first aid station' like South Crust...i mean South Crest.

The REAL question is, WHY not just call in on on the phone instead of tie up EMSA's radio? Seems like there was even a dedicated phone line just for the "trauma coordination" junk back when I was doing EMS. I bet it's the same reason Green Country FD gets on Osage Co SO's south repeater to ask directions to an address while they're in the middle of a shots fired call. :lol: :wink:

There is a trauma coordinator phone number to call.So i dont see the point in tying up the radio.

but as for green country, i guess when you dont have a dispatcher and fail to use common sense and ask the caller directions, you should interupt OCSO :lol:
