If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Have you tried on Ebay? You might luck out and find someone selling a parts radio with all the original accessories, including both battery packs. Replacement re-chargeable battery packs for many amateur and CB band HT's can be found, but the AA pack you want might be a tough find.

Good luck,

just so you know, that is sadly... the last handheld CB Radio Shack ever made.. it was a nice one too.

you're going to have to buy a whole other TRC 241 to get a battery pack.... I tried several different battery packs from 20 different handheld CB's I own..... and none worked on the TRC 241
sad they built in the rechargeable batteries and don't let you replace them

many Radio Shack Hand Helds came with two packs but both packs let you put in the batteries yourself.... sad they didn't give you that option.

I've seen several video's where people take a battery pack and force it open dispose of the rechargeable batteries and buy 10 new rechargeable batteries and solder them all together like the factory and put it all back together .....
VERY LUCKILY the TRC 241 used NI-MH batteries that are very common today.
so if you still have the charger, you could cut open the pack and replace the rechargeable batteries and then you can just charge it up .....

hope you have the charger... they are very hard to come by... I am looking for one myself... but a universal 16 Volt 200MA ac charger with a selection of barrel plugs will work.

only problem with rechargeable batteries is... if you leave them fully charged for a few months it will ruin the batteries.... and if you leave them at zero for a a few weeks they will never take a charge again...... so if you do this you will have to kill and recharge the pack every few months or it will all be for nothing.

I have 200 rechargeables that I use for my handhelds.... if they are not in my handhelds I keep them in automatic candles that turn on every night at 4PM and shut off 8 hours later..... so they are always being used.. when they get dim about every three months I recharge them.... it's amazing that I can honestly get three months at 8 hours a day ( 720 hours of use!! ) 30 straight days of use!!!
the rechargeables I use have 1200 cycles.... so if I kill and recharge them 4 times a year ( 4 cycles ) ... 1200 charge cycles divided by 4 times a year equals 300!! so I could keep doing this for 300 years!!!!

and seriously I have not bought a new AA battery in 4 years. my whole battery collection is still going strong.... I put them in a few of my Handhelds and let them scan for a few days ...they can scan for about 3 days before dying.... Channel 6 keeps stopping my scan.

if you try to solder in new batteries, I would suggest using POWER OWLS sold at Amazon power owls AA rechargeables VERY good rechargeable batteries... I have them in EVERYTHING in my house.

this is my video to maintain rechargeable batteries.

and this is my battery collection for my handheld Cb's

you will never find one,
you will have to buy the whole radio... and 90% of the stuff on E-bay doesn't work so they sell it for "parts only" listed as untested
so it's time to buy a new radio.... lot of good ones out there

if you're looking for one, I can tell you how to buy a brand new $100 awesome CB for $48 bucks... just let me know.

not on ebay is where i should look right..?
If you are set on getting this radio operable, I would continue to look on Ebay. It's possible a complete parts radio with all the accessories will pop up for sale. I'm not a huge fan of Ebay as it is today, compared to when I first signed up in the late 90's. However, items I thought I would never find have popped up in short order.

On the other hand, if you have decided a new radio makes sense at this time, then put the funds towards that instead.
