All was good in connecting to SDS200 for upload/download connections to SD card in ProScan and Sentinel. Firmware updates OK. Database updates OK. Connections to Uniden and RadioReference databases OK in both apps.

I was messing around with ProScan and controlling the scanner through the virtual control window. I got it to connect in serial mode over USB port. Was fine but I messed up USB connection to read SD card somewhere in the process of changing port stuff.

I got a new SDS100 hours after I messed with controlling the SDS200 and altering port configurations. I plug in the USB to WIndows 11 laptop and the SDS100. I hear a ding on the laptop when it plugs in, but no popups on the laptop about SD and the scanner does not switch to the screen where it asks id you want serial or mass storage connection on the scanner.

SD card is fine. Scanner loads channels and scans.

Ugh... Everything was good until I switched to serial mode.

I must have messed up USB/SD settings. Please help!

When you do your Sentinel things like updating firmware, master database and so on, you would use Mass Storage mode which is eYes when asked when connecting the scanner and PC.

For controlling the scanner, it is nNo for Serial.

Sometimes a port can be captured and a simple re-boot of the computer may work.

Correct on entering Mass Storage mode. That was flawless numerous times. Until I connected to the SDS200 one time with the laptop. Now can't get the new SDS100 to kick into that screen where it asks which mode. Never got it to connect to the new SDS100 since I messed in controlling the SDS200 in serial mode on the USB port.

The very first time I connected in Mass Storage mode on the SDS200, there was a window pop-up or two on what to do in making the mass storage connection to the SD card over USB.

When I plug the cable in to SDS100 and laptop, I here "ding" on the computer. But nothing happens.

You may be using wrong usb port on the SDS100. For data, serial, charging, mass storage connections you must use mini usb port on SDS100 (as opposed to micro port like on front of SDS200).

The micro usb on SDS100 can only be used to power the device, no other functionality at this time.

Bingo! Why I wouldn't have thought the unmarked top port (USB1) was the data port like on the SDS200 and use the same Micro USB cable for both...

Had I followed the SDS100 directions, it DOES say to connect using the SUPPLIED USB cable. Duh...

When I plug the mini-USB in to the bottom port, shebang! It recognized the connection and the scanner screen switched over to ask if I wanted serial or mass storage mode.

Operator error. Thank you for helping me figure out where I went wrong!

Trust me, a lot of new SDS100 owners get that mixed up..... 🙃

The Mini USB (shaped like a hat or speaker - Similar in shape to the old Pizza Hut logo), marked CHARGE, is the proper USB port, not the upper, smaller Micro USB, which doesn't do much, at this time.

Now, back to having fun with the scanner!
