AURORA -- The investigation into a crash that killed three people on a busy street in Aurora continued early Thursday morning. The victims were all members of one family.
Police said the crash happened at about 11:00 Wednesday night on Chambers Road just south of Mississippi. Chambers remained closed in both directions at Mississippi at 5:00 a.m. Thursday.
Investigators said 4 vehicles collided. Aurora police Lt. Troy Edwards said a tow truck that was traveling northbound went into the southbound lanes after it sideswiped a Honda SUV.
Police said the tow truck then hit a Nissan Murano and Chrysler 300. Reports from the scene said that a father, mother and their older son in the Chrysler 300 all died. The vehicle was unrecognizable after the crash. Edwards said a baby boy in that vehicle was injured and went to the hospital. The baby is expected to survive.
Investigators said they tested the tow truck driver to see if drugs or alcohol played a role in this crash. They did say that the road was wet from rain at the time of the crash, and that speed may have been a factor.
