Trouble with an Auto-Tune Transceiver

Getting back into Amatuer Radio. Had a TS-520 feeding into an MFJ-949E then to 450 ohm ladder line to an 80 meter dipole for a long time. It all worked pretty well on multiple bands until the 520 had capacitor issues. I recently purchased a "new to me" Icom 761. Clearly more radio than I'm used to operating. It has an auto tuner. Is there a way to continue to use my ladder line fed dipole in its multi band capacity with this new rig? Or should I scrap the MFJ tuner and ladder line, and just run coax up to a balun at the dipole? Thanks to all.

I agree with Sergei. Use the MFJ-949E and keep the internal tuner on the in the 761 on bypass. It should work just as it did with the TS-520. If you wanted to use the internal tuner in the 761 you would need to terminate your ladder line into a 1:1 balun and run coax from that to your rig. The coax would have high SWR on it so it needs to be as short as possible. Chances are the internal tuner would not be able to tune on certain bands due to its limitations.

Thank you both for getting back to me! I'm going to give it a go tonight. The auto tuner does work reasonably well with the 949E set to bypass on all but 40 meters. I'll try using the 949E with the auto tune disabled. Thanks again. Best Regards.
