Everyone,

I have been wodering..... Say I have one Bank in my Pro-96 scanner programmed for Motorola Type II Smartzone for Pwince William County, Va FD/PD. Now if the Frequency list only takes about 15 channels Not counting the Talkgroup ID's.

Is it possible to use the remaining channels in that bank to program another Motorola Type II Smartzone System or will I have to take it to another bank?

Reason I ask is I am running out of space at least on the first set of channels Banks 1-9. But I still need to re-do Washington DC PD & Fire.

Thanks,

Jason

Hey Jason,

We have talked about this very thing in several threads. Here is one:

and here is another one:

To hash it out some more .. :) you can have as many moto systems in bank as you want. In fact, you really only need the control channel frequency to trunk with. It get problematic when several systems that are in close proximity to each other are keyed into the same bank.

If you have not already done so, I highly recommend that you purchase a programing cable for your 95 because it makes short work of frequency mods to your config.

If there are no common TGs between the systems, your proposal will work fine. If there are TGs common to both systems, locking it out on one system will lock it out on both. Conversely, scanning it on one system means you will be scanning it on both. That's the only drawback.

Two comments: First, only program the control channels. That will save even more space. There is no reason to have the voice-only channels programmed in - it's a waste of space.

Second, make sure you leave at least ONE CONVENTIONAL CHANNEL between the two systems so the PRO-96 doesn't interpret it as one large system.

In mine, I have eight systems in one bank.

Wow thanks!

Joe I'm going to try that. You mean by Control channels the main (Highlighted in Red) and the Backup Control Channels (Usually in Blue)?

So all the others I can just delete and it won't matter? hmmm

Thanks,

Jason

You're 100% correct. :D

For a Motorola system, there should not be more than four per site/system.

I gotta thank you again!! I re-programmed the 96 last night to hold Prince William County, Virginia's TRS System. It payed off already today when I picked up a transmit to a Commander for a shooting at Brentsville H.S. I'm going to Attempt to Add FairFax County, Virginia's TRS in the same bank and see if it works out.

Thanks,

Jason

Does anyone know if the same can be done for the BC296D?

I would like to be able to program multiple TRS's in the same bank and scan them all in one bank (CC mode) but have not yet found a way to make it work.

Thanks ..... Mike KC8OWL

Just make sure that if you program it CC only, that you have all of the same plans in the same bank. IE: you can't put a Plan I and Plan II system in the same bank, it will pick up one or the other, but not both.

I've found that this trick just doesn't work on the Unidens. Here's why: When the unidens detect a period of inactivity and rescan the bank, they start from channel 1 of that bank each time. The result is you end up on the same CC almost every time. In addition, on the GRE, the period of inactivity that triggers a rescan is only a few seconds, on the Uniden it's more like 2 or 3 minutes. This can result in alot of missed calls on the other CC's even if you somehow get to them.

Starting with the 246T this problem will go away, thanks to the dynamic memory - it will treat each segment of channels set up as an individual system as one bank, even if that "bank" is only one or two channels in size.

Two weeks ago we RV'd to Jax FL from Suffolk VA--plugging in overnight at RV Camps in Camp Lejeune MC Base, Charleston AFB and Kings Bay Naval Sub Base in route.

Except for short routes to the above military RV camps, the trip was on US 17 until we reached I-95 in Jasper CO SC.

My 785D was set in ID SEARCH as follows:

Mot Plan 1 in Bank 1
Suffolk VA
New Bern NC
Jax/Onslow CO NC
Wilmington NC
N Myrtle Beach SC
Horry County SC
Georgetown City SC
Charleston CO SC
Beaufort CO SC
Savannah/Chatham CO GA

Mot Plan 2 in Bank 4
Myrtle Beach SC
Georgetown CO SC
Charleston City SC
Glynn CO GA

Each system worked as planned. The other banks were filled with various Military 400 Mot systems and the FBI Mot VHF system in GlynnCo GA plus Jax/Duval (highly encrypted) and Clay County FL LTR.
