NIGAW, go into global settings, scroll up key, and change the ADC and DAC levels to +2 each. This will pretty much double the volume level.

Also, I am pretty sure that the larger the SD card you put in, the longer the boot time.........I think it has something to do with the scanner reading every sector on the card for data before booting on......even if there is nothing in the other 31GB.

MY TRX-1 TAKES 23 SECONDS LONGER THAN MY 436HP TO BOOT. Not 23 seconds total, 23 second more after my 436HP has already done its loading favorites and such. Thank goodness my scanners stay on all night once turned on.

Been using the limit search this morning on the TRX-1 and found that it will discover DMR channels but only when there is voice on the channel, otherwise it just comes across as the analog signal noise.

I'm loving this new scanner!!!!!

May I offer a humble apology to UPMAN!
The TRX-1 is a mess. Yes it has great audio BUT, SQUELCH KNOB ON TOP????? It's something most of us seldom use. But it as a menu option (ala Baofeng) and instead of using arrow up and down for volume PUT IT ON TOP. You can't adjust the volume while operating a car, but could if it were analog and on top. It's a shame you have an otherwise great product whose design wasn't properly thought through.

Sure you can.

A couple of months ago, I borrowed a friends car for a couple of days. He had a WS-1095 in it at the time. It only took a couple of glances to get the "lay of the land," so to speak in regards to where all the controls were. Once I had that down, I was pretty much able to hit the volume up / down arrows with nary a glance.

As Marshall Brodien, who advertised magic tricks in a series of TV commercials back in the day, used to say, "it's easy once you know the routine."

The up/down arrows for volume does work VERY WELL when your holding the scanner with your right hand......your thumb just kind of naturally finds them. The Whistler seems better suited for single right hand only operation, the button placement is perfect for that.

TRX-1 impressions

Okay having just receive my TRX-1 this week I sat down today (Saturday) and I went through the learning curve of how to program it. I have own many programmable scanners over the years and each one takes a bit to understand some were easier than others.

Having recently own the GRE PSR600 type scanner I was hoping the programming would be what similar but it wasn't. I used Butel's software to program the PSR600 which I found it to be fairly easy to understand and use. EZ Scan on the other hand is not. Having the RR information readily available on the SD card does work and will be plus. I'm not going to get into specifics on the software other than to say that having direct output from RR is really handy when programming using PC software. I believe sooner or later there will be a better option but for now I can live with what came with the scanner.

I will comment on two other items I've notice, and which took me to RR to figure out how to adjust the volume on the TRX-1 ! I feel kinda of stupid but I and read and re-read the manual and never saw anything about the adjustment I may have just miss it. I will say I was a little surprised that the control wasn't the normal control pot on top. I will always feel there is a need to have a squelch control. I can live with the soft buttons no problem there. Some comment was made about a hissing noise coming from the TRX-1 I don't have that problem, I would have to say that must be coming from a dirty power supply or some other device but mine is a very quiet.

Maybe I'm different, but being right handed if I was holding the scanner I would be holding it in my left hand. If they wanted to have it accessible for one hand operation, the controls should have been on the side, but that would have made it tougher if mounted in a vehicle.

So, my 436 and 536 just arrived back from Uniden clock reset repair recall.......and as I turned on my TRX-1 to test it side by side, the TRX-1 just asked me to set the clock........are you kidding me? My RTC issue just TRANSFERRED from my Uniden to my Whistler the same day I receive it from repairs......W T F.

NO. It's not a problem with the TRX. That's the way it's been for years on GRE/Whistler radios. They don't have internal batteries to keep the date/time like Unidens. So if you take the batteries out for too long or have weak/damaged batteries in it, it will lose the time after a while. That's the way many of the professional radios are also, if they even have date/time capabilities.

AGAIN, nothing new like most of the stuff brought up here as complains. Some of you sound like what you want is a Uniden with a different name on the case.

I know DonS has posted about the clock in the past in some thread, probably quite awhile back also.

I believe he said a person has about a minute or so to change the batteries before it loses the clock. In the 2 years of owning my WS1080 I have never lost the clock during battery change or any time a matter of fact.

If you are changing the batteries externally and don't happen to have a set to swap them with or don't feel the need to swap them as you don't need the scanner then it's quite easy to see why the batteries would be out for a while. Of course once you know it works that way one could through in some alkaline cells while the others change just to keep the clock or plug in the adapter.

The Date/Time is useful for logging.

I am not sure, Mike, why you "believe" this will occur. It's been posted abundantly on this forum that Whistler will not allow any third party access to the data format used by these radios. This is not a case of others lacking initiative. It's a case of a statist radio (with RR being the state) locked-down tight and a Whistler development "team" unwilling to modify, quality check, or complete the software other than to periodically correct major bugs. We are stuck with "EZ Scan" for the Whistlers.

The TRX-1 is one of those scanners that I am afraid to have to program..........to my subconscious it is similar to a PROM, I can flash it, but to make any in line modifications (the type I do) requires basically rewriting an entire talkgroup list from scratch. If EZ Scan had a way to even simply move talkgroups around 1 at a time, it would be better.......if you could copy and past chunks of channels or talkgroups, I would be 100% happy with it.
