I believe I have a workaround for the conventional DMR Slot 2 issue.

I programmed my "test system" in as a trunked DMR system instead of conventional. One frequency, proper color code, and appropriate talkgroups.

I can confirm that in this manner Slot 2 is appearing and working fine, regardless of the status of Slot 1.

Jeff of Hamstation advises me that this was the way conventional DMR had to be programmed before the firmware upgrade, but I got my TRX-1 after the newest firmware so never tried this until now. It does appear to be a viable workaround until Whistler fixes the problem.

What's funny to me is that I never saw the issue because I was used to programming everything as Trunked because of being used to the Uniden way of "DMR One Frequency" trunked settings.

My question now is: When would we actually use or program anything using the DMR Conventional way? Or put another way, now that Slot 2 issue is fixed (I think), should we go back to programming those single DMR frequencies as Conventional?

You'd want to use Conventional if:
* you don't have a lot of frequencies
* you're only interested in one or two talkgroups

You'd want to use Trunked if there are several frequencies that share a common set of talkgroups.

While you can use Trunked even for frequencies that are really conventional (e.g. something like a DMR-MARC repeater), there's a speed penalty involved in loading up a trunked system from the SD card. Conventional is much faster.

DMR Trunked or Conventional

I do not own the TRX1 but do you program DMR CON+/Cap+ as conventional or trunked? Also based on the fact that Whistler does not use the control channel data, I would have to think that the radio would work better on a DMR trunked system with a small number of frequencies vs one that has a large number of freqs. It would be interesting to see from the folks who say the Whistler works fine on DMR trunking how many freqs actually are in use on those systems.
