I ordered the scanner, it should be here in the next 2 days or so.

I downloaded the software and ran the updates.

I am attempting to create my first scan list for Wake County. I watch a YouTube video by Zip Scanners but it's a bit old and the software changed a bit.

I am curious why my scanlist for 'Wake County' isn't showing any of the frequencies I imported.

I created a video of the steps I took, here it is:

Turn on "SET LOCATION" under the General tab.

What happens if you go to:
*File
*Open V-scan Folder

Then open the Folder that you just created.

By the way you did it in video it put all the things in the already selected scan lists that were selected by the method you chose. I think you would need to use the preferred option in the import selection, so you can select the scan lists you want them in.

Alright, I think I figured out how this software works.

You select a State and a county and import all the channels.

The software takes each category of channel (Law Tac, EMS etc.) and automatically groups them, so when I go down the list, I find these groups.

Then, I got back to import, and import another county, the software takes the frequencies from the same categories and adds them to the same lists.

The end result, each scan list keeps growing with more counties, so now for Law Tac I have Wake and Durham counties frequencies. I discovered this in the Import screen as it says the scanlists start at 151, so I scrolled down and found them. When I finished adding Wake County for example, I had 213 channels in Law Tac. When I added Durham County, the list grew to 232.

Best and most efficient way to do EZScan is use the "Preferred" method in the IMPORT drop down tab instead of city/county/etc as others said. Those things flood the DEFAULT 001 scan-list with ALL your choices from a county. The worst thing to do is use Zip Codes or using only ONE scanlist with FAR too many "Objects" in them. Making your OWN LISTS, selecting only what you want and naming it is the best way to go instead of using those "categories" like "law-talk" "fire" etc that are default. When IMPORTING, you can select individual things best by using the Preferred tab/scroll down in IMPORT. YouTube has many videos on how to do the "Preferred" import. You can view your Trunking systems on the Trunking TAB where it's all listed there along with talk-groups too.

Ok, let me restore everything to default and try it.

I tried the "preferred" method, but I am more confused than before. My previous lists are still saved as well, even though I reset everything to default.

So far, not impressed with the way this software is designed, hopefully the scanner itself is better as the reviews say it is.

Not really. It's been well documented how hard it is to explain stuff over the phone or through "text" The Preferred method allows you to select just what you want from Import into LISTS you name on the very first TAB (General?) that's where the lists are named. I did mine by selecting SYSTEM/Site/Talkgroups in that order and adding to self named lists of about 50-70 objects one at a time.

@Th3_Factory_Freak try this short help I put together and see how it works. I'm in Wake County (Raleigh) and have a TRX-1, WS1098, and two others with legacy upgrade to WS1080, if u have questions DM me.

By the way Wake County is in the process of testing and setting up a new P25 Simulcast Trunked System to replace the Motorola Type II in use now.

Thank you.

How do I clear all of my previous choices? I can't seem to get everything to reset, the scanlists are still showing up.

When using preferred, I don't see as many categories as I did when I used the 'county' method, I see very little.

2. I tried uninstalling the software and re-installing it, but my scanlists were not deleted.

I downloaded the Statewide VIPER into ScanList001, would that work or is that list too long?

Go to the FILE option top left and select NEW CONFIGURATION, that will let you start a new one. When you load it into the scanner it will replace the old configuration.

I would lockout all the towers you aren't listening too otherwise you will miss a lot of conversations. But the TGs are fine. Over time you will learn what TGs are not interesting to you and either Skip or Lockout those. The way mine is set up is one scanlist has everything for when I travel, three scanlists have my three local towers (1 each) and other scanlists have more specialized TGs like Statewide Events, Disaster type TGs, Viper Feds, etc.

When using preferred, I don't see as many categories as I did when I used the 'county' method, I see very little.

When using preferred they are not in categories like you had, you are manually selecting and assigning the TGs.

I am mainly in Wake, Durham, Chatham and Harnett counties. I will start a new config, I will probably ping you for help so I appreciate your response.

Scanner should be here tonight. (if the FedEx gods are in my favor)

Scanner is here. I checked the CPU and DSP firmware, everything is up to date and doesn't need updating.

I started it up, input date, time and zip code and was able to hear agencies all over Wake county.

Now i Just need to learn this software better.
