I downloaded the 1080/1088 software from whistler's website but it keeps downloading with an error,
The program loads up but when I try to do a library or pc application update the program glitches and freezes.
Is there any place other than whistler's site where I can get a good download?

You can only program a Whistler wiht it's specific EZ Scan version...BUT, you can open a TRX CDAT saved archive in WS EZ Scan and clone it, or vice verse. I use the same CDAT archive to program my TRX-1, TRX-2, and WS1098's, using three different EZ Scan versions.

that’s what I have to do with my 1080/1088 and 1095/1098s. It’s kind of annoying. I don’t get why they couldn’t just make one software package for all of them.

I can't say I ever tried this!
One question, what does the 1098 do with NXDN entries that were carried over from a TRX model?

I don't know, I don't have NXDN stuff in mine! The TRX1 and TRX2 EZ Scan makes no sense, because the base EZ Scan has the battery level menu selections as well...

I guess Ill need to try this. I always knew you could read the CDAT files with the other versions of Ez_Scan but for some reason, I never tried it!
Maybe because the data is encrypted has scared me away from trying as I can't really see what I am copying over from one radio into the next.

EZScan has always seemed to be somewhat of a mystery even back when GRE was still around.

I'll post back here if I do try with my results.

Well, I read a TRX2 backup archive into a WS1080 version and it did convert. The TRX2 had a lot of NXDN trunked and conventional entries.
The conventional NXDN entries seemed to all convert the a P25 type while all Trunked NXDN systems converted to a DMR type system except two which converted to standard Motorola type systems. The conversion from the unsupported NXDN types seems to be more random.
I had all mine labeled with NXDN in the name so it was easy for me to delete all the unsupported NXDN entries.
The WS1080 scanned the rest of the TRX2 entries just fine after restoring the TRX2 archive into the WS1080 EZScan and deleting all the old NXDN stuff!
I'm glad you pointed this out as it sure makes things easier trying to keep the two models synced with the same scanlists.

Yeah, I can't imagine how irritating it would be to have to maintain so many versions of the same "codeplug" programmed from scratch for every model!

Maybe the variations have to do with the firmware update functions, and the fact that they mod each DSP and CPU differently at differnt times requiring slight changes to accoun tfor that in each versions specific EZ Scan?

The software for the 1088 is on the SD card in the scanner. Don't have the EZ-scan for the TRX1 open. Follow all of the directions for installing EZscan for the 1088. Do all of the updates. You will be good to go.

I only have to do it for the same type of mobiles/portables (WS1095/98 & WS1080/88) and it’s annoying. And the software checks for devices first so it should be able to find out what’s connected before doing anything. The only real difference is the features only present on either the mobiles or the portables (battery settings and such) but they could just be put on separate tabs or sections of the settings page.

import the archive in the proper version of ezscan, remove all non compatable systems, then copy the configuration TO the scanner/sdcard

I should have pointed that out. I did remove the NXDN systems and channels or other unsupported things from the imported copy before writing anything to the older radio.

I did load the original backup archive back into the WS1080 since trying this as I want to document all the other settings like low battery voltage levels and what not figuring those may have all went back to some default value after reading a TRX2 file into the 1080.
Simple screenshots of the main settings screens should be good enough.

You may have answered a question I have, but to make sure, I'll ask. I am purchasing a TRX-1 and would like to set it up exactly as my WS1095. I would be able to use the CDAT archive from the 1095 to set up the TRX-1, with the EZ SCan version for the TRX-1? Thank you for your assistance.

yes. I’m the same (I have 3 1098s, a 1095, a 1080 and a 1088) and they are all programmed EXACTLY the same. I do all the work in one app (mobile versi on), upload the code plug on the 1098/95s, export the configuration and then open it in the other one (for portables) and upload the code plug for them. Just pick over the code plug and make sure everything is EXACTLY as you want it because it’s a pain to discover a mistake at the end and also if you make any tweaks/changes on the scanners, keep notes and make the same changes in the app.

By export he means save the archive, which is the CDAT, then open the CDAT from the other version of EZ Scan :)

You can also import older Whistler scanner files into EZ Scan...I had some WS1065 programming I was able to somehow import into TRX EZ Scan.
