Has anyone had an issue with the contrast not changing or if it does change but reverts back? If contrast set to 1 and I change it to 20 it looks the same.

I never had a problem with this scanner I sold it last week and the gentleman that bought it is the one having the problem. The only thing that has changed is I removed the head unit when I shipped it. Not sure of all the changes he has made but the contrast is the one he mentioned. Everything else appears to work fine. I suggested to restore defaults. Why CPU firmware?

The CPU firmware controls all aspects of the scanner (except DSP as it has its own firmware). It could have gotten corrupt.

Before they do that have then try and take off the head and clean the contacts with rubbing alcohol and a q tip, let dry then reinstall.

Unlikely any contact problem between head and main unit as it is just datatelegrams that are sent to the head that changes the contrast. If it reverts back then either the main unit sends that command, also unlikely, or the displays control voltage have a problem to the expander IC or the cpu in the head. Not much else to do than to unscrew the back of the head and then the frame that holds the circuitboard and display and try to wiggle the connectors to check that everything are in place and haven't come partially loose during shipping.
