Talk in. Might have to go with indoor booster or voter. Not sure which. Funds availability have not beed discussed yet. I would like to gather ideas on which brand of indoor amp would be best. We were qouted anywhere from 300.00 to 1000.00. but they did not give me brands or web sites to start looking. I would like to do some research on the best ones but do not know of any web sites to start. If any one has any good ideas I'm open to suggestion. ( Brands and web sites of indoor VHF booster or amp) Also, I know a voter would most likely be more expensive than an indoor amp antenna. I could use some vendor and web site input on those as well.

Oakland (CA) airport TSA is using 172.1500 NACs $001-004. Heard all of them within an hour.

San Jose uses 172.9000 $001 repeated. There may be others in simplex mode but I haven't verified.

If you are using a P25 radio, set the RX net to F7E. This is the NAC Monitor, like using CSQ instead of PL or DPL for RX.

NAC Monitor = F7E (Hex)

When this Rx NAC ID (Network Access Code) is set to “F7E”, the radio unmutes to any ASTRO call regardless of the call’s NAC ID or the radio’s ASTRO Rx Unmute Rule set for the current channel.

Also, this doesn't work for every P25 radio so test first.

Setting to a digital squelch unmute rule is the better way to go.

I can confirm that this doesn't work on the GRE PSR-500 scanner, and it doesn't work on my Motorola XTS3000 radio either. What radios it does work on is unknown, at least to me.

It looks like you've possibly identified channels 1-4, 6, 7, and 10, at least I'd be willing to bet. You say they use different channels in different terminals, but did you notice all the terminals using a common freq w/ different NAC codes, or actually using different freqs. I'm wondering if, for example, regions are using channels 1-4 or if they are also using 5, 10, & 11. Maybe by putting more information into this, we can figure out their system in more detail. And it would not surprise me if they have the same system installed at every airport (freqs & NAC codes).

Yes the Same Freq Plan is used at all Airports using the VHF TSA Freq Plan, A very close friend was a contractor for the deployment in the central part of the US and he was sent to other areas for QC checks of installed systems. I have it on good authority that the same plan is used at all airports. They are 100 Watt Quantar repeaters with wire line control for OTAR And Re-keying, with unity gain antennas installed in very close proximity to the area to be served. Almost every airport that is serviced with a commercial fllight has a repeater. Although not all airports used the repeater after it was installed. They just stayed on channel 1 since it coverd most every where they needed to go.

Several people have confirmed that DFW Airport has repeaters on 169.1625 and 169.1875. I don't think anybody has reported the NACs so far.

It has been awhile since I checked it, but the NAC for 169.1625 used to be 001.

By the way, heard some radio techs performing radio checks in Houston this week on 169.300. The NAC was 001 and it was definitely a repeater. This may be the repeater used at Houston IAH (Intercontinental Airport).

Where do these channels fit into the channel plan in DFW?

What radio do I need to monitor these guys? How do I find the NAC codes you talk about? I am getting ready to go digital, so just asking questions to understand the what, where, how, why, etc.

Any digital capable scanner can monitor the TSA, or any agency using P-25 digital frequencies. However, presently, only the GRE PSR-500 and PSR-600 scanners can detect and make use of the NAC codes. NAC codes serve sort of the same function as CTCSS and DCS tones do on analog frequencies. There are 4096 possible NAC codes, specified as a hexadecimal number, from 000 through FFF.
