TTC down?

CityNews 680 is reporting that the TTC has suffered some kind of ransomware attack and that their radio system is down. I’m not home so I can’t check. They are also saying that they are on a backup radio system. Is that cellular?

Yes, cellular.

I'm not super familiar with TETRA infrastructure. I can't see anyway the system could be locked out unless someone got in and changed all the system admin PWs.
They would also have to disable all the sites and possibly all the mobile IDs as well. That would require a intimate knowledge of the TETRA system infrastructure. Hackers usually don't have that kind of radio experience. Usually, all they do is either wipe the system computers or if supported encrypt the data on the computers.

The TTC should be able to reboot from a backup again if someone was able to get into the system and delete or change the admin passwords.

It started late Thursday and worsened Friday. News reports indicate loss of primary communications with vehicle operations and no ability to book WheelTrans trips. They're staying mum on ransom demands and say no public passenger safety was impacted. We'll see. after the fact.

Any info on how bad the systems were hit or locked out? My information is that the radio systems are ok. It looks like just the programs that determining the scheduling and calculate arrival times at locations are affected.
