Seems like as of November, the subway radio system is mostly still on MPT-1327, however there are some TETRA broadcasts. The surface radio channels are still also available underground but also appear to be broadcast as TETRA on a separate frequency.

Has anyone been able to decode any of the TTC's TETRA stuff with TELive or anything similar? You can tell by listening to the analog channels that there is most certainly a patch happening, as it's about a 50/50 mix of digital and analog users on there.

I doubt they will retrofit any of the old trains to a new system on the bloor danforth, they will probably wait until they start to be replaced with the TR's.

There is no current plan to replace the T1s with TRs on the BD. That is to say - that IS the eventual plan, however nothing is ongoing at the moment.

I did some monitoring over the Christmas weekend and found them to be rebroadcasting TTC Surface Channels 1-5 on the TETRA System. The traffic seems to be a two way patch between the UHF analog system and TETRA system and occasionally you hear the distinct sepura key up tone or analog tone remote sound in the background.

As you may know, each TETRA channel can have one control slot and three voice/data traffic slot, so each "Location Area" is effectively a four slot site that can carry three voice paths. I did my monitoring from Downtown High Rise and was able to log quite a few sites around. I would not be surprised if there are underground only sites where frequencies are reused.

Overall the audio quality is excellent.

The MCC/MNC codes for the new TETRA network are MCC 302, MNC 2013

Control Channel / Location Area (Site)
422.2625 LA03
422.4625 LA17
422.5375 LA19
422.4625 LA20
422.6625 LA27 Downtown
422.6875 LA28
412.9625 LA29

I used the sq5bpf linux bootable TETRA monitor software on a USB stick and a RTL-SDR receiver. it requires minimal linux skills and the knowledge to type a few command lines which is documented clearly in the instructions.

You can find the tool and link to download in the forum here. The whole setup is less than $40.

Does this mean the same as Surface Ch.1 ?
I'm not 100% sure. I'm testing from home and I hear the most TETRA traffic on this channel. also a good portion of it seems to be an analogue patch. But there are some digital transmissions on it as well.

Line 2

On my trip home with my wife we decided to check out the TETRA broadcasts on Line 2, this is the way we found it is set up:

Victoria park tunnel to Chester 422.4625 422.5625 LA3 color code 3

Broadview to ossington tunnel 422.2625 422.3625 LA3 color code 3

Ossington tunnel to old mill 422.525 422.625 LA2 color code 2

Old mill to Kipling 422.325 422.425 LA1 Color code 1

The channels that are +100kHz still refer to the channels below as the downlink.
I’m not 100% sure if they do anything different or if they are repeating exactly what is being broadcast -100kHz.

Looks like the mpt-1327 is still alive and well so I added it back to the database.

I rode the subway yesterday and was still hearing analog traffic on the old system including a few transmissions that came across the pa.

Can someone confirm that the control channel is still active or did they leave some of the channels up as conventional?

I don't know if the control channel is still active as I dont even have it programmed in my scanner, cuz its useless.

On the Bloor Danforth i sometimes bring my scanner along, the analog system still works fine, as well as the other TTC channels still being broadcast down there.

As it is a MPT-1327 system the control channel has to be there or else the system would cease to work. They also still broadcast old analog surface 1 and 3 down there currently alongside TETRA
