I will try it after I get my LMR-400 COAX I just received a email from Amazon that my lmr-400 has just shipped about an hour ago so when I see what difference the coaxial does Then I will order a splitter and try out the two Discones at the same time. Should be interesting.
Steve
I hope you didn't order the fake LMR400, if it's not times microwave, it's not LMR400. Most of what;s on Amazon is genuine (for LMR400), but there is some counterfeit.

Using two identical antennas in parallell without any filtering will make them work as a noise canceller, cancelling out signals coming from certain directions. And other directions might get added signal strenght. It will be a directional antenna setup.

A 10dBi logperiodic antenna are much more directional and can be used if all signals you want to monitor comes from one main direction.

Put a antenna amplifier at one discone antenna and you do not have to worry about any coax loss and can use the cheapast RG6 and the internal noise level in your total receive system will be lower. But you probably have to use a FM trap filter and for sure you have to attenuate the signal before entering the scanner so the total gain from antenna to receiver are kept at 0-6dB level.

Thanks for the information, I do have a FM trap filter installed, I was having issues with other frequencies bleeding onto other frequencies after installing the FM Trap it fixed the problem and another difference was I am now getting more hits on my Close Call feature then ever before, close call is going off all the time on the SDS100 Scanner.

Many companies make LMR-400 type cable. At least one is actually better quality than Times and of all the brands I've worked with, none are junk so far. They all have almost the same identical loss spec and the only difference you might see is in the outer jacket. For the major satellite and radio companies and Govt customers I do work for I would always buy Times but for home or hobby use cheaper stuff seems to be just fine.

I received (and returned) cable that was unmarked from Amazon. No way to know what it was. It was for my 1.2 ghz antenna, I was not willing to take a chance. Sounds like Steve ordered the correct cable. I'm hoping for noticeable results.

I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's the good stuff, I will let everyone know what changes I see when I change the coax. I have had good luck ordering from Amazon.ca. The only problem I am seeing is the shipping times because of the covid 19 virus, I have had a couple of packages not show up and had to get a refund. The shipping times are really slow.

Steve,
I like to know what type of connectors. The reason asking is a Pl259 connector has more loss then a Type N or a BNC. The length of coax has a loss factor LMR 400 for runs up to 100 feet or LMR 500 - Times Microwave

Any connector added or device has loss. If you are using more then one Scanner you might look at a Multicoupler. I use this anhttp://www.stridsbergeng.com/multicouplers.html

It would be better to spend your time and effort on a single well-placed antenna and the best Belden low loss coax that money can buy. Then a precision termination of that cable with a high quality connector with a dab of DeOxit D5 100% solution on the connection points. The coaxial cable is so critical to RF communications, and Belden wire is the ticket.

Yep I'll wait and see how things go when I get the new coaxial

Steve does your Discone antenna have a type N or So239 connector? if you are using adapters in line it gives added loss. and did you order your cable with Pre installed connectors on it?

What are you using to diplex the two antennas onto one feedline ? I seem to have acquired a new in box Diamond D130NJ but looking to cover 7/800 as well.

I was asking questions about doing this, I am not doing it at this time.
