I noticed today that my local PD channel is putting out control tones now, does this mean it has gone digital? Don't see any new listings yet or changes. Its been a while since I have programmed one of my scanners and going to read up on it now but can the SDS200 or BCD996P2 scan for a NAC to find out what it is now?

Thanks, never had to search for one, guess I got some reading to do.
Update: Got it, my town as on analog, and was using an older uniden analog scanner so I lock on my town PD channel on the 996P2 unit and turned on digital and the new NAC showed up and had audio again, 996 and SDS200 now reprogrammed. But there goes all my cheap handhelds now.

Don't forget to submit the updated NAC and changes to the DB as well, it'll help out other users who may come with the same question.

I don't know why but Tyngsboro reception has never been good. Dunstable I have no problem with and it's farther away from Lowell.

We have been having issues with the older system for some years now, noticed quite a bit when we had loads of rain and some areas in town had reception issues, dead zones. Hopefully
It was submitted and is in the DB now.
Thank you, didn't get a chance to send the notice and wanted to verify if anything else was updated as well.
the new, digital system corrects and helps this out now.

I know Tyngsboro PD went digital. Does anybody know if FD went as well?
Hi, I was told the entire system was updated to digital now, police and fire, but only the PD is P25, FD still in the clear. So, with the PD going P25, which is digital, can the FD be digital as well and be in the clear, just not P25? I'm only going by what the town sources told me. From what I am hearing, I believe fire is digital too because when they tone out for a call, the tones are kind of messed up now, voices are clear.

Same frequency, but NAC649 needed to hear them now, FD still in the clear. If you check the database, it shows the info needed for those who have radios for these..

I don't mean to be pedantic, but just for the sake of others who happens across this thread: "in the clear" is more commonly used to mean "not encrypted," whether it's digital or analog. Tewksbury PD and FD are both unencrypted and thus "in the clear," but the PD has moved to P25 digital voice. The fire department remains analog (at least as of yesterday when I was listening).

It's entirely possible, based on your earlier comments about what town officials said, that the FD radios and repeaters were upgraded to ones that support P25 but they have chosen to keep using analog for the time being.

You're possibly correct, I don't know that much about P25, etc other than a lot of services have changed over the years. All I know is the entire system was upgraded. I also know, from years of living here that the signal is much stronger and clearer now. Of course, P25 to me kind of sounds garbled versus the older analog one, but that could be just our radios (scanners) are not perfect to what they use for these types of transmissions. I know the tone out "tones"for the FD at times sounds weird, sometimes it's fine, so something has changed on the FD side as it never did before the update. But as you stated, it's probably still analog. Thanks for clarifying for others.
