It's always a tough call, to go with a hard case that protects the gear better but has no flexibility and is clearly something that stands out as atypical, or to use a soft case like a backpack or satchel bag that isn't as protecting but doesn't look like anything special to attract attention and being flexible can be stuffed into spaces that a rigid case wouldn't fit.
