I began having issues receiving traffic on my SDS100 all the sudden. I ran an update to see if that was the issue and it has not helped. I have replaced the antenna and I am still getting intermittent periods of no traffic but can listen to the same frequencies on a different scanner and there is traffic but it is not being picked up on the SDS 100. Any thoughts?? Thanks!!

Corrupted data card? Cold solder joint problem? What's your serial number on the back of the radio?

Poster, I don't know how new your radio is but make sure all your service types are turned on. Also I see that was your first post and you are now looking and trying to manage your account. Expect a delay in your response you posted on RadioReference as you are being moderated for a handful of posts.

Thanks for the account info. I bought the scanner from a family member and I believe he got it in 2018-2019. I will check to make sure all the service types are on as well.

Well the serial number will tell you when the radio was made and what number it was coming off the line. The cold solder joint problem has been reported to be fixed on the production line but not exactly sure when, even though I think it was after the beginning of 2021 and nobody knows the serial number of the unaffected units but it sounds like it's a unit that was before the correction of the problem on the assembly line, which doesn't mean it couldn't happen to one of those also.

The radio would have to go back to Uniden for repair and you would have to pay for it as unfair as that might seem, you would not be the only one who would be complaining about that.

The repairs from Uniden have been mixed. Sometimes the repair does not last long.

There was a member of RadioReference who has not been on for a while who did a very dependable repair of this problem that was permanent and of much better quality but for the moment he is no longer in business and has not been on radio reference for a while. Pretty much don't know what to say other than that.

When you get the serial number the first three numbers will be Uniden assigned model number, then there will be a z which indicates that out of all of Uniden products it is a scanner, the fifth number will indicate the year it was made so it will be an eighth or a nine, if it was made in 2018 or 19. The next number will be an 8 indicating it was made in Vietnam, then you will have a series of zeros and then a number and that is the sequence of your unit off the line. That number starts with 0 every year. It seems like the earlier models of 2018 the first year of production are affected the most.

So, go to your favorite search engine and look up cold solder joint sds100 and read all about it. Also look up corrupted data card on sds100 and it will take you to various RadioReference posts that can help you if that's the problem. HTH... welcome to radio reference... Bob.

PS I am no expert by the way with csj but there are members here who are.

It could be that the scanner are swamped by a strong transmitter and loose reception. Easiest to check by scanning at another location, maybe take a drive in a car a couple of miles away, if the problem occur often enough.

If it's a cold solder joint issue it will show up in a debug log. Search for debug log here at RR to see how it's done and then zip the text files that are created and post and we can see if you have that problem. CSJ and the antenna port solder joint issue needs a Uniden repair, if not Jon at www.unidenscanners.com can help out.

I would normally agree with your expert opinion but... I doubt that Jon will respond any more than he would to the people that he's been holding on to radios for months and only responds when challenged by PayPal.

Nothing personal but you have to keep up with the latest charlie foxtrot involving his business.

Again I'm not taking any sides or nor do I benefit or suffer from his business but some folks are having a problem. I personally would send my radio for repair to him way before I would send it to Uniden as the quality and dependability was always much better.

There's a request form on his website. Use that and see what the response will be. He is probably busy with other things and will not have the time for repairs at this moment. He states he has family issues and those always have priority.

I think I just read yesterday that after a PayPal inquiry he did return someone's radio unrepaired that he had for months but I believe there are still others who are unable to get a response to get their radios returned. Again I would rather send it to him than Uniden but I would steer clear of that now. Maybe we will get some new news soon.

Addendum... I just tried the link you posted and it says under construction and there's no way to make any contact. Doesn't look good.

I looked this morning and there was an 8 so that leads me to believe that it was made in 2018

Yes if the fifth number was 8 that is correct, the sixth number is an 8 because that indicates the radio was made in Vietnam... What were the last numbers after the series of zeros?

I will have to look when I get back to the scanner
No problem the reason I'm asking is I have heard that the first batch of the line may be affected more by csj. Where the cut off is between the first and second batch I don't know but I've seen units with csj and the last numbers being 0005xx and I would think that would be the first batch of 2018. They were probably bought in May of 2018. My serial number ends with 0000441 and I bought it in May of 2018, I have not suffered reception problems from csj and the reception on my radio is perfect having programmed it correctly and adjusted filters. I do however have the rotary knob problem, which I had in my 536 also and my battery clip disintegrated in my hands just picking the radio up. I consider csj a time bomb that can go off at any time. By the way if it's a solder connection to your antenna that's pretty easy to figure out, put the BNC adapter on and see if you have any kind of play or if slightly manipulating it helps with reception.

Radio reference archives have all kinds of information on the SDS 100. Any kind of question you have just Google it or search radio reference and your questions will be answered. There's a good chance your radio is headed back to Uniden repair.

You can always call them and talk to them about it. You also want to register your radio with my uniden.com

The seller doesn't have to do anything just say you bought it privately with the approximate date and location, you will use the electronic serial number, not the one on the back of the radio. ESN can be found in Settings under scanner information. It's a different sequence but still has all the essential information I described above. I always recommend using the number on the back of the radio when you want the year of production so you don't have to power the radio up, especially when it doesn't power up LOL but for this purpose you will need the ESN.

Put the ESN in exactly as it reads, it will be followed by three numbers which is the check sum number.

Sorry this happened to you but as you read all of the threads on csj you'll get a better understanding. Should you be paying for this repair? No, but you will be. I have suggested that there be a repair campaign that would fix the problem for free no matter how old the radio is but I don't think that's going to happen.

Keep us posted, keep in mind what Ubbi said above, also hopefully someone else will chime in here and offer you some help too... as I was saying there's a lot of experts on reception issues that might have some fresh ideas... Bob.

Simply out of curiosity, I bought mine about a month ago, when was it made? Should I expect any issues down the line?

LOL oh, unfortunately you blocked out the number we would need. The 8 you see above means it was made in Vietnam the number before that should be a 8 or 9 or 0 or 1 or 2 depending on the year it was made. If you want to block out numbers for security reason do the last numbers, we all have the same first numbers ;)

Read my post number 8 above and it explains what everything means in a serial number.
