Hi guys, I'm a volunteer firefighter and we have recently got 3 unication g1 pagers to add to the fleet of Motorolas. The problem I have is when in scan mode, you can't understand what the non priority channels are saying due to the pager "checking" back to the priority channel. They are set for 750 milliseconds and a hang time of 3 seconds any advice?
I'm assuming you are being toned out using Motorola 2-tone. That tone sequence usually consists of a 1-second A tone, followed by a 3-second B tone. The reason your pager is set to 750 ms is so that it will switch back to your primary frequency within enough time to hear the A tone. If you change that to every 2 seconds, for example, the pager may miss the A tone, and then it won't alarm. By setting it for 750 ms, it is guaranteed to go off. That's the tradeoff: missed pages.
What would be great is if Unication put two radios into the device: one for the primary and one for scan. Then, it could always be listening in the background to your primary channel, waiting for tones, without having to scan back. But, that's not the case unfortunately.
