• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I have recently purchased the G5 in a VHF /7-800 split. I have programmed the pager correctly to my knowledge and am having problems with reliability of the pager activating when tones are sent for my department. Is anyone else having any problems with this or know how I can fix this. Thank you

Make sure you have the timing settings correct.

Also, do you know what type of tones your agency is using? Motorola, Plectron, Reach.. ect?

Just to give you an idea of an issue I was experiencing. My County uses Plectron Tones, but does not follow the standard timing for Plectron. I had to set it to "User Defined" and enter in the timing sequence my County uses.

I second checking your tone timing. More recent firmware versions are way less forgiving with timing.

I had a fleet working fine then during some updates it stopped alerting. I had to find the sweet spot for tone timing as I had a variety of encoders, with slightly different times.

I'm having this same issue on a G4 with two different systems. VIPER will alert while I'm in "monitoring" mode but not in "stand-by" but Charlotte UASI won't alert at all.

These issues are merely just programming issues, I would suggest reading the help files, watching the numerous youtube videos. A lot of people from what I've seen (I'm guilty of it myself) just wing it and get frustrated when it doesn't work.

These are professional grade radios which have a little bit of a learning curve to them and are usually set up by radio shops or system admins who are familiar with how their systems are set up.

Just takes a little patience's and trial and error.

I'm looking through both my v.3.whatever cpg and the standby channels look exactly the same as the ones on v.4.31. Departmental tones fall into the tone groups in PPS. Not sure what the problem is.
