• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Yeah the 64 Talkgroup monitoring seems kinda crappy considering you can define 1024 TGIDs

64 talkgroups total sounds about right to me and maybe too many with many Profesional users using a limited amount of scanning. If something big breaks I can change to different zone/knob position to hear the incident.

Going forward too many talkgroups scanned at once will most likely cause you to miss a lot of radio traffic. This is why I use multiple radios to monitor with only scanning a limited amount of stuff.

So I dunno if I got a firmware bug or something, cause the firmware version on my G5's appears to be one version ahead of what is publicly available. Unication website says v2.02 and v2.03 are latest available, but autoup shows v2.02 as latest, but our pagers have v2.03.
Because your pagers are "new"....2.03 is only available for the new(er) pagers. 2.03 has never been made available for download the newest we can get for "older" pagers is 2.02. If the pager is "new", 2.03 is what came on it.

This is 100% the situation. It took me programming my Unications to finally figure out why some of the other stuff I used to monitor with wasn't working the way I thought it should. I scan only about 48 TGs in my area on the system I monitor and still end up missing "agency a" while "agency b" is talking. Multiple monitors is the key. (at least for me YMMV)

So then the 2.02 works the same way? Unication just has a different concept of Scan vs Monitor than the Minitors do? No real silent mode other than being off-duty?

I never thought to really check this with unication before ordering them, I did a good thorough check of the documentations before we did (since I knew I would be the one programming them), but the documentation definitely didn't quite detail it would be like this lol.

I just saw the same labeling that Minitors used and assumed they would be the same way. Definitely at least never thought a "Scan" option would also audibly monitor since there was an explicit monitor one.

The firmware's as far as I know work the same. I don't have anything with 2.03 but I can't imagine any functional differences.

Unfortunately I can't comment to the "off duty " stuff. Maybe I'll have to mess with that some when I get another pager and see what all it does or changes. Right now I'm not gonna mess with the one the wife uses and mine has taken too long to get set up (for the most part) the way I want it. I'm waiting on one to come back from Unication under warranty.

Well basically let me put it like this. Assuming your unication is public safety use (ie; it's tied to a main dispatch/command talk group), can you always hear what's going on over that even without your tones going off first? Or do you only hear dispatch chatter after your tones go off until you reset it, similar to how Minitors work?
