Hey all. So my bc350c in my truck has stopped receiving weather for some reason, but still picks up VHF just fine. I’ve been looking at replacing it, but I’m not sure which way to go. I know a lot of stuff around me is digital, but that’s a no go because of the price. I’ve located a 355n on marketplace for $50, but I’ve also been looking at the bct15x new from bearcat warehouse. I’m located in Burke county NC. If bearcat warehouse programs the 15x, it comes out to about $350 which is just too much. So what would I gain if I bought a new 15x over the 355? They sell for $170 new, and the programming I was looking at was for McDowell, Caldwell, Catawba, and Alexander county. I would probably do the programming myself at that price. What’s the best bang for buck? Also interested in scanning GMRS, MURS, and CB, which I understand both models will do. I guess what I’m asking is, what’s around me that’s still analog, and is the 15x even worth considering? And for those interested, I’ll be running a Larsen tri band on the front fender.

I have a bunch of BCT15X scanners as well as many of the Uniden digital scanners. Now any analog only is going to be somewhat limited nowadays because so much is digital, but if you're not looking to listen to digital, the BCT15X is an excellent analog only scanner. I use FreeScan to program mine and they're very easy to program. They're also quite fast and just seem like good all around analog scanners. I use mine mostly for weather and ham radio, but some other things as well.

I can't compare it to the other one you mentioned since I haven't used one of those.

That was my first thought, but my handheld picks up at least three weather channels, in the basement, while my mobile won’t pick up anything while sitting in the yard. This has been an issue for a few weeks.

I ended up grabbing the 355 for $40, in like new condition. It’ll do what I want for now, which is monitor MURS, GMRS, weather and CB while on the road. I may pick up a 15x in the future if I can find one used. I did come across a 996x, but at $400 used I thought it was a bit much.
