I have a BC365CRS and use it to listen to the local fire dispatch on frequency 151.1975 (Piatt County, IL). It’s always worked great but recently that frequency is always static. If I disconnect the antenna it stops and if I turn the squelch all the way up its still static. Anything else I can check and how would I check if that frequency went digital? This page does mention they put in for a grant for new digital radios. Piatt County (IL) - The RadioReference Wiki

thanks!

The license is still active for analog but the wiki says it may be NXDN? You would need a radio that would be capable of doing that if that's correct. I'm nowhere close to that County so I can't confirm myself

If said "static" sounds like any of the audio samples here then I'd suspect NXDN. Some folks get "static" confused with raw digital emissions and the terms are erroneously used interchangeably. There's also DMR and P25 raw emission samples for your listening pleasure

The call sign page for them was recently updated by I can’t decipher that page: FCC Callsign WRAF921 (PIATT, COUNTY OF)
No digital emissions appear on the license, though that doesn't rule out their use...

Not sure that wiki is correct, it says sheriff for that freq but its actually fire. The RR database lists the mode as FMN but it hasn’t been updated in 2 months: Piatt County, Illinois (IL) Scanner Frequencies and Radio Frequency Reference

Yeah that license WRAF921 list all those frequencies in analog NFM mode. But that doesn't mean they are not using NXDN and or DMR. They just aren't following their license. If you have a budget in mind I could point you towards your next scanner if you would like

Thanks, was actually looking at SDR, would that be able to receive them if they went NXDN?

Yes SDR would be a good choice. It can receive everything basically. Just couldn't really use it as a scanner unless you set up one of the various programs which is difficult. Unless that's all you plan on listening to. Which is an excellent choice and very cheap as well

Assuming encryption isn't a factor, yes you'd receive NXDN voice with an SDR & DSD+. You'll receive data either way if encryption is a factor. Clear voice traffic will be logged in the DSD+ event window as Group Call. Encrypted voice traffic as Enc Group Call

I’ve listened to Piatt Fire within the last 2 days, they’re still on the same analog freq’s and system as before. I can double check later in the day/night..

Have you been able to scan other frequencies without trouble?
