I just bought my first scanner- uniden BCD396T and I need HELP. Anyone in the Baldwin area who can help, I will tip for your help. Email me @ litenut2@yahoo.com.
Welcome to RR. Here is Easier to Read BCD396T Digital Scanner Manual for manual programming, but I recommend you get free FreeSCAN This will not only make your programming much easier, but it will help you understand all of the features of the 396T. It allows a automatic download of any or all frequencies in your county and state from this site, and sets up trunking TGID's & para's(this is a big help). Note: You would need to become a paid subscriber to this site to get the automatic down loads. This can save you countless hours of programming and frustration. You will probably need to get a cable to connect to your PC Uniden DMA FAQ - The RadioReference Wiki
Here are the pertinent frequencies to program in you area;. Baldwin MI. The Michigan's Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) is a digital trunking system that will be easy to download, but somewhat more difficult to program manually.

You should also understand Programming Your Uniden Scanner and Uniden DMA FAQ After you absorb all this, If you still need help, go to the Michigan Forum.BTW, never post your email in anywhere on the web if you want to avoid spam

Other thing is that your area is slowly having more talkgroups(channels) being identified since a few counties went digital in the last year, so be sure to keep up what is changed at
Michigan's Public Safety Communications System (MPSCS) Trunking System, Statewide, Multi-State - Scanner Frequencies
The full MI digital database is http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=100

I've had that model myself, then upgraded to the 396XT ... from Bay City MI
Too bad you don't live closer, I could show you the ins-outs of the radio. ;)

Here are some videos that may help you
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=396t
https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=396xt <- for the xt version programs the same way though.

Program to use if doing it on a computer instead of through the radio itself, http://www.sixspotsoftware.com/downloads

unidennewbee,

Lake County is the only county in this area that is still on conventional frequencies. 155.685 for Law Enforcement, 154.430 for Fire, and 155.220 for EMS Dispatch.
All the counties surrounding Lake are on MPSCS. Manistee, Mason, Oceana, and Newaygo have been on MPSCS for some time, and Wexford, Osceola, and Mecosta have switched within the past year.
These digital scanners can be pretty daunting. I got a Radio Shack PRO-106 about 4 years ago, and it took a little while to figure out. I originally programmed by hand, then later got Butel's ARC500 to clean up the resulting clutter, LOL.
I hope this helps,

-Gary
