Ive noticed an issue with LAPD simplex and tac channels - Im not picking up every transmission. Sometimes I only hear the air unit responding to transmissions Im not picking up. I know that simplex and tac channels dont have the reach that base channels have - but Ive also experienced this issue when scanning units on simplex that are only a mile away or less. I imported all of my channels/systems from radio reference using scanner programming software... Anyone know why this is happening? Or what I can do to trouble shoot?

You antenna might be light on receive, if its the original antenna that came with the radio. An air unit, probably 20 miles or more on the rubber duck. The base 15 or more miles. Mobile to Mobile 10 miles would be max Buildings or terrain should alter these receive ranges, An outside antenna will be like night and day compared to the stock antenna. If you only pick u[p a partial transmission, check that wx priority is turned off.

And with portables a mile might be pushing it depending on buildings and terrain.
