I noticed for number of systems in the Database, that there is a "Uniden DSP" number e.g. 123a.

What is this number used for?
Is it simply an external number used by 3rd party software to access the RR database for programing?
Or does it have something to do with setting up the 396/996 to work with a particular system?

I see three sets of numbers here:

http://www.nhfirebuff.net/Nashua_FD.htm

Is it for the manual settings of Digital Signal Processing on the Uniden scanners?

Actually shows two particular scanners here:

http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=848

Those are the type of numbers you will see when doing the fine tuning on those scanners.

If you look at the So. Dakota State TRS listing you will see what the OP is referring to. It is at the top of the listing.

System Name: State of South Dakota
Location: Statewide, SD
County: Statewide
System Type: Motorola Type II SmartZone
System Voice: APCO-25 Common Air Interface Exclusive
Uniden DSP: 958 Low
Last Updated: General text description updated

I'd never seen this before. The local systems I listen to don't have that bit.

I want to see if a DSP would work in my Uniden 996T and would I get Unit ID too or not? And I am about to move to McKinney and they are on encrpyted system so would this help with the encrpyted or would I have to get the Digital Speech Decoder (software package)? Any Help thank you.

No to pretty much every question you asked. :D

Let's go through the list:
1) DSP is already automatically adjusted in the 996t. What is referenced in this thread
was only used for scanners that came out before the 996t/396t.
2) Unit ID has nothing to do with DSP. Unit ID display is only available on the
396XT/996XT/HomePatrol.
3) If McKinney does encrypt their communications then no software package
will be able to decode their comms. As been discussed before many times decrypting
encrypted comms is illegal and more times than not, not able to be done at all.
