Well guys i did buy it new about 4 weeks ago. Yes i did pay 500 bucks for it. What i paid
for it should have included the extreme update. if i take it outside it does work better, so i think i need a lot
better antenna. I should have waited and bought a better unit so i could pick up the county i would like (genesee county). But maybe next yr i can buy a better one.

Going to read up on a outside antenna that will work for it. But cant spend to much right now. Have to have the boys set it up. Don't move to well after total neck surgery. But i have time to play with the scanner more.

I do get genesee county-fire ems to pop up It says simulcast with 800 but no sound on that. I understand that these wont pick up genesee county because of new phase. I live in wyoming county ny and that comes in terrible. I think a better antenna is needed. ty all for the help

Totally disagree with anti-HP1 rhetoric. I purchased a used one for $350 (included Extreme Update). Have it on an outside antenna and monitor public safety over a 4 state area with "location" set to "off" on digital (local) and conventional systems (60+ miles out) on 40 Favorites Lists. Aeronautical freqs with my location being a FAA Regional center rocks especially at night! Best scanner I've ever owned (including PSR-800, Uniden digital models, RS digital models, etc). I read the manual first. Program it weekly using Sentinel. I try new things from time to time. I also periodically reformat my sdcard and factory reset the scanner to keep everything fresh and fast. It sits by my recliner and never disappoints. Reception using an Antennacraft ST2 never disappoints.

Well I can say that reception would be good for that HP-1 since you are using an St-2 Antenna. I do have one of them and that antenna for the money is the best out there. More metal in the sky the better.

I can get at least 60+miles with some conventional frequencies too. Low band highway patrol works awesome too. I might buy another one to have on hand for future use since they are so cheap and run well on coax cable. Very happy

I have found that using any sort of in-between items (BNC to SMA adapter) on the antenna greatly degrades my signal. They also tend to fail really fast making you think the antenna is bad.

I recommend getting a SMA antenna and put nothing in-between the antenna and scanner.

I use the Comet SMA 3 bendable antenna all the time on my 436. I picked up a Diamond antenna and it has been sitting on the counter for over two weeks now. The diamond is good for driving scanning many different frequencies but the Comet seems to bring everything in crystal clear. Even while driving.

Good luck.

Because of the mounting location on the HP you need an elbow of some kind.

Actually, the antenna I listed has a 90 degree bend and also spins 360 degree's while bent. Using this type of antenna does not require you to have anything in-between. This is a big reception changer for me on my HP-1. But, I use the antenna on the 436 since that goes everywhere with me. I will be buying another for the HP-1 soon.

I'm going to suggest that you ask the forum admins to move this thread to the NY state forum. You can do this by clicking on the red and white triangle in the corner of one of your posts.

Wyoming county is analog conventional, and Genesee, at this point in the RR database, has only an analog trunk system. Even though there is a tower in Genesee for Phase II, there are currently no TGID's on that system.

We can only give you general answers as to why your HP isn't doing what it's supposed to do. Have you ever programmed it from Sentinel?

Here is a mod I came up with and I've been using it on my HP-1's . This is very useful when connecting to an outside antenna ,eliminating any kind of stress that you would normally get when connecting directly to the HP-1's SMA .

+1, very good mod.

I just had my GPS port pull out of my HP1 yesterday.

So now I need to figure out how to open the unit so I can resolder and epoxy the connector to the board so it does not pull out again.

All 4 pins seemed to just pull off the solder pads, nothing appears to be broken, just cold solder joints?

Overall I like the HP1, just needs a few firmware improvements/tweaks and the RR Master Database needs the 2 digit state identifier included in the System/Top Line.

I was traveling up the East Coast and all the small Towns and Burroughs mean nothing to someone not familiar with the area and the states are so close to each other you have no idea what state you are monitoring.

WOW, you really hate the New BCDx36HP Series? I'd have to say, IMO it's for one of two reasons, or even both ..... Operator error or your in an area that a 996XT would do just as well.

I, Myself have A LOT of "Operator error" issues. Mostly because I am still operating on the cigarette plug (Bad idea for permanent mobile use).

Still can't figure out how to amplify the audio without screwing the scanner up.

That's it, my only two complaints and BOTH are Operator error issues, NOT Uniden problems. How can anyone that owns one of these hate them so bad .... just doesn't compute .....

Which of the 50 states are Wyoming and Genesee counties in?? I could take a wild guess and assume Wyoming, but odds are there are counties matching those names in several states.

They sound like New York state to me.. perhaps across the lake from Toronto.. come on Brian you know that.

Who's Brian?

As I said in the section you quoted, those counties are valid for several different states.

If the last comment was directed at me (though it was evidently directed at someone named Brian), I don't make it a point to know the counties of a state 3500 km away from me.

These people know what they are talking about. I have had an HP-1 for about a year, and loved it. I did not start having any issues until my county went to a public safety 25 system. I was lost and unable to hear any local PD,Fire, Ambulance etc. I tried everything on my own, even bought the upgrade, which really confused me(and did not help) I logged in yesterday asked a few questions, and today I am listening to everything local again. Thank you all for your fine help. I will check this forum daily so I can keep up(I hope).
