Hello,
Does anyone have a list, or know of a place to find out what are the frequency ranges associated with the various "service search" functions on the Uniden radios? (I assume they are all the same).

For example when I set a BC125at to "police" search, what frequency range is that? Is there a list for all of the different services somewhere? The owner's manuals just says those service searches exist not what the ranges are. Same question for "marine" or "air", is there a list somewhere?

**I am aware that most police & fire have gone digital and analog searches for those are sort of pointless, still I'd like to know what the frequency ranges are**

The reason I ask:
I am eventually going to get a SDS-100 probably, but in the near term I'm purchasing a BC125at. I'm trying to decide on a antenna for my car, and it seems like getting one single solution antenna that covers the scanners entire range is not realistic (it'd be cool to hear it all on the same antenna, military air, Ham, so on, but I'm learning that's not realistic) So i'm trying to decide what I really REALLY want to hear, and what frequencies those transmissions are on so I can buy the proper antenna.

I already asked in the antenna forum and great advice but if anyone here has a thought please feel free.

the police "range" will be for almost the entire range of the radio.
low + high VHF old list of FCC services for police.
453 + 460, and a few more. up to 507
851 to 866
plus or minus a few Mhz.

From the manual:

Service Search Banks
The scanner is preprogrammed with many of the frequencies
allocated to Police, Fire/Emergency, Ham, Marine, Railroad, Civil
Air, Military Air, CB radio, FRS/GMRS/MURS, and Racing services.
There are 10 banks allocated for these searches that can be used
just like the channel storage banks to search these frequencies
in Service Search mode.

Obviously won't decode digital systems.

I don't know how many channels/bank

Right, I know those service banks exist, but I was curious what the actual frequency range of each service is. For example is "Civil Air" 120 MHz to 400 MHz or what? if that makes any sense

it would be entertaining to drive around and listen to service searches, but unless you have more radios running, you might not hear much.

So put it in service search mode and step through the bank.

My *guess* is mostly VHF for police, 108MHz - 136MHz for civil air

if you go to the page and look under radio shack scanners you can get a rough list of what uniden service searches are.
and like i said, the police are almost the full range of the radio.
so a 30 to 870 antenna would be nice,

"Back in the day" services had their specific sets of frequencies. However as time went along and the spectrum became more congested, public safety users were able to get authorized to use "other" service frequencies. For example, our fire department needed to get a repeaters, but all the fire frequencies were spoken for. So we ended up being coordinated/licensed to use a game warden frequency.

So I'm not sure how dependable a Service Search would be.
