Having an issue getting the software to connect to the scanner. Both the software and scanner are on the same baud rates. I am sure the Com port is correct, because when I change it comes up with an error message, which is not occurring on Com port 3. However, the software just continues to flash "reading configuration" and the "write to scanner" button on the PC is blanked out.
John, I am trying to use your data files you downloaded onto the Yahoo Group rather than program by hand, which I did on the small Union County system and even that took about two hours.
Any one know what I am missing. I am using Windows 98 SE, which the software states it supports.
FYI-hand no trouble linking the scanner to the PC when I used Butel's backup software.
Thanks

Have you registered the software ?

The software, if not registered, will only load to the scanner four systems with specific names ... Conventional, LTR, EDACS and Mot.

If you are trying to load the systems Jon put together, as he named them, they won't upload to the scanner if the software is not registered.

The other area that some folks have had problems with is the comm port settings and using USB-to-serial adapters.

One poster on the BC246T list on Yahoogroups had an upload problem until he set his comm port baud rate higher.

It's not registered, but I did all the work arounds including changing the systems to the allowable names. Can't even get to attemting to write to te scanner because the button is blanked out. I will play with the PC's baud rate. Never knew until I started playing with the 246 yesterday, how much traffic is on I-call on the Char-Meck system. Like the reduced size of this new radio.

If you have (or have ever had) a Palm Pilot, Windows HH, or similar that synchronized with that PC, it is likely that the sync app is causing the problem. Check your system tray (lower right corner of the desktop) to see if there is an icon for such a program and, if there is, right-click and "Disable" it.

In the interest of keeping this thread short, note that I will only be posting this one time.

Funny you bring up that solution. I posted my thrice posted response using my Pocket PC wirelessly!!! Must have had reception issues with the router.
Will try disabling ActiveSync. Sorry about the multiple posts!
