Just the opposite. you DO need to program it for your frequencies, it has NO frequencies programed into it out of the box.So I understand that I won't have to program anything. Once I buy it, take it out of the box, and plug it in, it'll be ready to go, and I'll be able to listen to the frequencies I like best. Thank you very much for your answers. Greetings from Spain.
Yes, that is how it works. You program in a frequency and it can hear traffic on that frequency. It does not come pre-programmed but can be programmed fairly simply to monitor the frequencies of your choice.I really appreciate it, but I just want to know what I already asked... if I immediately take it out of the box, plug it in for the first time, and enter a frequency, for example 144.600 MHz, if the frequency is busy, will I be able to hear something, or will I not be able to hear anything until I reprogram it with a computer?

Technically, you don't have to program it first to start hearing signals immediately after taking it out of the box. The 260DN has pre-programmed service searches for aircraft, marine, railroad, amateur radio and others that can be accessed through the menu. It's a good way to see which frequencies are in use around you.I really appreciate it, but I just want to know what I already asked... if I immediately take it out of the box, plug it in for the first time, and enter a frequency, for example 144.600 MHz, if the frequency is busy, will I be able to hear something, or will I not be able to hear anything until I reprogram it with a computer?
This is a great forum with lots of knowledgeable and helpful people. I'm from the United States, and live in the state of New Jersey, only a few miles from New York City. I would love to travel to your beautiful country one day.Thank you all very much. I'd like to know from which country and region you're writing to me. If you ever travel to Spain, you'll know that you have a friend here willing to help you with anything. Is the Uniden UBCD 260DN a good device or is the SDS200E model much better and more complicated to use? Hugs.
