I probably should have left cabs and private investigators out of my list...let me rephrase and say that there are interesting businesses to listen to and others that are not interesting at all. Like cable companies.

Do I ever know Dougie. Logged a lot of hours in my 'formative years' under his wing. Mention Graeme if you're speaking to him and I'm sure he'll regale you with a mittfull of stories about the various elections, hockey games, Ride for Sight parades and god knows what else we did together. Oh, and ski jumping at Blue, too. Any stories involving beer are probably true.

As for the repeater, you're probably right about it not being in use. I know last time I listened in when I was in Owen Sound the trucks were still using the simplex frequency to talk to each other. Someone told me they were keeping all the gear together as a fail safe.

At the risk of sounding harsh, listening to cable techs do their work orders over a repeater is hardly what I would consider interesting...right up there with taxis. Go nuts if you're into it, though, I say.

It's not so much that I want to listen, as I want to log. Trying to build a database. : )

I checked the repeater this morning and it is definitely off the air. I know a lot of the trucks do have the radios but I'm not sure the repeater is still around.

Not sure what's happening in Barrie either. The head end was pretty much abandoned but the base station was still sitting there. Can't remember if it was powered up.

But as you said, listening to cable companies is pretty boring.

Back to Union Gas... Their office/depot near Oakville has a rather large UHF dipole setup on it's tower, so you'd be best to start looking somewhere around there.
