unitrunker FAQ?

I was wondering if there is a unitrunker FAQ or file or post someone could point me to? I currently use trunker but by the sound of it unitrunker may have some extra features. Is this correct, like I saw a post talking about a scope? Will it be beneficial to update to unitrunker.

I read the FAQ and it say I do not need a slicer, I was just wondering if you wan can it be used with a slicer? I think the answer is no, but if yes is there any advantage?

Per the included html documentation:

The signal source may be a sound input (preferred) or a data slicer (provided for compatibility).

You'll have to test the data slicer yourself to see if it works for you.

As far as the advantage, the biggest one for me is that I can use the MIC input rather than the serial port. Most computers now a days have only one serial port, and in some cases none! I only have one port which is used to control a separate radio for voice listening.

The author of UniTrunker states that the sound input is preferred. I'd imaging it has something to do with the internal coding structure, but he'll have to elaborate on that himself.

The driver providing slicer support only worked on Windows 2K and XP and caused Windows to BSOD. It was removed a while back. I made an attempt at using NTVDM support for VXDs (Windows 9X drivers) but found that didn't work either.

The main limitation of a slicer is it doesn't work with APCO P25 signals.

I could re-introduce slicer support than only works on Windows 9X/ME. I haven't had the time and/or motivation to do so.
