I noticed unitrunker closed on its own and lost alot of data. I thought this happened before because I thought I had over 320 something users, then I had 290s...

It happened again and now I have 218, I'm losing users, histories etc, it's terrible... Have to re-enter what I have recorded but that's time I ain't got right now really. Histories and users that I lost is most annoying. Am I running it to long, is this pc so crap it can't handle long runs without being stopped and restarted, I honestly don't know but it actually really angering.

Edit: I think what it's doing is reverting back to last current from 5-25-2026, so I'm losing like all those logs and data since then, before it must only lost some and why didn't end up with 218 the last time and had 290 something. Any thoughts wud be appreciated because there's no point if it keeps doing this

I know from Unitrunker V1, the only one that I use, that it has an Archive tab on the lower left part of the program. You can manually select a Backup from there. That helped me a few times in the past. There might be a backup also saved in the relevant directory somewhere. too.

It became unresponsive this morning. It put in most of the RIDs I lost manually at points I got a chance yesterday. I lost a few new RIDs from yesterday but all others were there, I did save it yesterday to create a new current that's not months back.

I see it has a revision (10) on like the 3rd out of the 11 saves in the archives, like it started saving to an old save and not the "current" save. See pic.

It cud just be the PC, it's junk, causing the program to close, crash etc. I powered it off and turned back on maybe that will help the crashing.

Do you all save it every so often, tbh I thought it auto saved, I didn't remember saving it before.

Weird thing, I seen yesterday evening when a new RID came up, it was a conservation officer, I labeled it etc.... well after the crash that was 1 of the missing new RIDs it got after my save... Well I can find it but can't click it in the "calls" feed but it's not there when I open the tab with all the users, I had to add it back.

I cudnt open the history, there's nothing, not even click the RID in the "calls" feed to get the window to even get to the history tab, it was like all the data associated with it was gone besides the RID itself showing in the "calls" feed. 🤷🏻‍♀️

stop the program, Try going into ..\users\user\AppData\Roaming\Unitrunker then copy the most recent (or largest size recent) unitrunker.xml.### file, then rename it to unitrunker.xml , then restart the program?

Hmm. I think to accomplish that you'd have to monkey with the XML of the data files. Might be better off to export the system/groups, save them somewhere else, then wipe UT and start from scratch, reimporting your saved system/groups? YMMV

I saved the color codes, xml... Essentially everything but those, so that I'd have all the RIDs, groups and their colors I had on each group and RID... Essentially what ur saying is what I did .... I deleted the whole program then re-installed it and put the color code file back, and xml file back, I think that is all I saved to put back.

Idk I'm not very good really at this, I'm not sure I wanna mess with the data files besides just coping them and paste them back.

Sounds like you're on the right track. If you're careful to make backups before you do anything invasive (like mass deletions), you can always reimport and try again.

I just thought after a fresh install it wouldn't crash at all, I mean heck it ran for like 3! months daily without a crash but a couple dongle disconnects probably because the cheap 3 ft ext cable.

Edit: as I finished posting this I stand up to get ready to go and it crashed again, just program closed

Tinkering with the software and clearing stuff out and reinstalling isn't going to fix your underlying issue, which is that your PC setup is unreliable. As long as you run on a slow PC with a crappy USB cable that causes the dongle to randomly disconnect, you're going to keep having crashes and data loss.

To give you some context, I have been running Unitrunker 24/7/365 on one particular PC since September 2012, going through every version from v1.0 to the last release v2.2.0.38. I have activity history going back to June 2016 when v2.0 started permanently saving it, taking up 3.8 GB of disk space with over 6 million files in 22,000 folders. I'm betting that you have less than 0.1% of that on your PC, yet it crashes frequently and mine never crashes.

Fix your hardware setup and your software issues will go away, or at least be drastically reduced. Oh and if you don't have any power protection for the PC, get a cheap UPS to at least buy you time to shut it down properly after a power loss.

Hi,
I fully agree with GTR8000 and I have been doing the same as he has for just as long as he has been doing so.
At the end of every month I send my Unitrunker history to a zip file and place it in a folder on an SD card.
The compressed file sizes:
1 year 16.5 MB
10 year total 41.5 MB
I delete most everything so at this moment I see only the activity (channel grants) going back to August 1st.

Cheers

I haven't been logging so I guess that might not been good all that data in the calls feed from months back was on memory, not the hd if was logging. But I agree this crap PC just ain't enuf.

Im only monitoring the CC, I'm not listening etc. guess I just gotta make do til I can do better.

So u log and save to, see I think that is an issue I'm not logging, my logging is turned off because I cudnt save continuously.

According to your screenshot, you're running version 2.2.0.38, the very latest (and sadly probably last version). All history is saved to disk, not to "memory". The software does temporarily store data in RAM while running, but all activity history and the groups/users are written to disk. Make sure you have Auto Save set to true and Keep set to at least 2 so that it makes copies of the Unitrunker.xml file every hour and keeps at least 2 days worth. The XML is where the groups/users are saved, so if the software crashes on you again...when the software crashes on you again...you can roll back to one of those recently saved files and not lose a ton of data.

But again, if your PC sucks, then you're just chasing your tail.

So even if I'm not logging it's saved to disk, not in memory? So if I'm not logging and it's saving to disk what is difference if I'm logging and not logging... I didn't want to fill my disk so I didn't have logging turned on. That's why I thought that calls feed was in active memory not saved to disk

Idk this very well so I figured I was wrong. I knew the PC was crap but didn't think just CC monitoring wud cause crashes..

I ran it for a few months not a single crash, like program close itself. Then one morning my PC like restarted or something, the internet was on, etc etc, I'm like tf, I always have internet off and I definitely didn't restart it to be at the login screen. After that day crashes started happening never before.

I know it's a crap laptop, I never intended to have it for this, I really got it for programming my scanners but this became fun Andi will at some point gets better PC cause I'd like to run some the more heavy programs at some point

An idea of the PC so u understand the crappyness, it's about 5 or more year old HP stream 15. It's bout as turd as u can get.

It sounds like you're confusing Control Channel logging (the Logging option on the VFO tab) with trunked system activity logging. Unitrunker always logs activity, there is no way to disable that. It's the whole reason when you shut Unitrunker down, then start it back up again, you see the history populate the site window grid.

PS - I'm running Unitrunker on multiple computers, too many to count, one of which is a 2012 era ultra small form factor Dell with just 8 GB of RAM, a pretty pedestrian Intel CPU, and a run of the mill 8 year old SSD. That PC is decoding 14 sites in Unitrunker at once using 4 dongles, and the software never crashes. Of course I'm using a good quality powered USB hub for the dongles, so they're rock solid. USB issues are one of the primary culprits when it comes to crashes like you're experiencing.

Oh really? So USB issues can cause crashes like the program just closing on its own. Think mine has 4gb RAM.. it's essentially has no HD, it's something but it's not a HD.

I probably am confusing things, I just have one dongle, monitoring the CC, I dont have logging on, not listening to anything, simply just looking at what's on the activity feeds. And it was nice to have the histories before but I'm more about getting RIDs and figuring out who they are.

I'm using it like I did pro96com essentially
