Hello,
Well, I never thought this program (Beta 6) would be so easy to get up and running. Love it!

Found the KnacK thread from this past June which helped but so I know what to expect,
I guess you can just park on a P25 Conventional channel and wait for activity?,
Will the NAC display hold the value until (if) a new one comes along on that channel?
Best Regards,
Dave

It appears that Knack also displays the System ID on a 9600 baud data channel.

Are these the same data type or is Knack capable of decoding multiple types of data?

Hang on - are we talking about the same thing here? The thread is called Unitrunker NAC decoding...

Are we talking about using Unitrunker to decode NACs or using the kNACk to decode NACs? Unitrunker doesnt seem to do anything when I run a P25 conventional channel through it...

Original post was asking about the kNACk - which is included with the Unitrunker bundle.

Run Unitrunker for a trunking control channel; run kNACk on a P25 voice channel. I think the original poster understood that.

Where is knack.exe located now? I don't see it in the WIKI...

If you have the most recent Unitrunker installed - it's in the program files folder. The taskbar Start menu shortcut is missing from the installation but the program is there (same for the Tuner program).

After all that, the question still stands...:)

Yes, I suspect it was just me that was confused lol

Thanks for the clarification.

Cheers,
Matt

PS - Are there any plans to add to kNACk or release some source code? Id love to have a tinker and add some stuff to kNACk, and although I am competent enough to add more decoding features such as RIDs, writing the soundcard/DSP code is beyond me..

Sorry Rich I missed this one.

No, kNACk displays the NAC - nothing more. Both the NAC and Sysid are three digit hexadecimal numbers so confusing the two is understandable. The NAC is like DPL for a P25.

The NAC is found on both the P25 voice channels and P25 trunking control channels. You will only see a Sysid on the trunking channel.

When I tune to a data channel for System 140 (StarCom21 in Illinois) with Knack I get 140, the same as the system ID.

When I turn to a data channel for an experimental Motorola 9600 baud system near hear that has a System ID of 747 I get 747 on Knack as well.

These are the only 9600 baud control channels I can hear here so far. Unfortunatly these are not in wide use yet, so I have been unable to hear any voice traffic on either yet this weekend.

So then, what is Knack decoding, a NAC being transmitted on the control channel (sort of like a Connect Tone on a 3600 baud system) or the System ID?

Thanks BTW for a great suite of programs, I have been having a ball with them!

That's a good analogy.

The person(s) administering this system have chosen to use the same numerical values for Sysid and NAC.
